I am the proud owner of a Bessacarr E645 & am pleased as punch. Unfortunately as this is my 1st motorhome I dont know how to keep my battery charged. I plan to do a lot of rough camping so its important I find this out. I drove 400 miles with the van switched to charge the leisure battery, parked it on Sunday night and the batteries are now dead. I was told when I bought it that it had new batteries & these should be OK for rough camping for 2-3 days but I need to know how to charge them up again. Any advice is welcome as I am looking forward to many happy times in my new home. Thanks.
Unsure if you are being sarcastic or helpful here! As mentioned I have not owned a motorhome before and do not know what you mean. Do I need to charge it whilst plugged in to a campsite?
Plug it in to mains to recharge the battery, then when not in use make sure the control panel is switched off. if you do that and the batteries still go flat, are they new batteries ? or there could be a power drain somewhere. maybe the radio is on standby all the time. hope that helps
you could ask your local garage to test if your leisure batterie is being charged as you drive....and test all switch positions whilst they test it.. may help regards Les..

Your van will have an on-board charger, so when connected to the mains, it will charge the leisure batteries.
Depending on your particular van, it will either charge automatically on hook-up, or you will have a switch to turn on.
Were you not shown anything on purchase?

Thanks all!!! We were told lots of things when we collected the van but were so excited we quickly seem to have forgotten most of them! We didnt switch the control panel to off!!! Thats our first lesson learnt then. If I plug it into the house/campsite to recharge will this automatically charge the batteries? thanks again.
Once the engine is running then both the engine and the leisure batteries should charge (normally irrespective of the way you have the swithces set on the panel).
If you drove 400 miles then that should have been enough to fully charge both batteries. If the leisure battery has gone flat almost immediately then you've got one of 3 possible problems.
1. The leisure battery is cream crackered and is unable to retain a charge.
2. There is some sort of electrical fault that is draining the battery in a very short period of time.
3. There is some sort of electrical fault that is preventing the battery from being charged when the engine is running.
If you've got reasonable knowledge of electrical systems and a multimeter then you should be able to eliminate 2 and 3.
If you are able to charge the leisure battery when on a mains hookup then you could get a garage to do a load test on it to eliminate 1.

Get a reputable Auto electrician to check the motor home and batteries out , all the advise in the world is good , but , for a few Quid ( get a quotation ) from someone to check it , ( not an estimate because that is what it is ) , good luck
