Good Morning - my husband and I are currently touring France in our Bessecarr E495. Have not used the awning much in past but over here we have had it out regularly. However, we have noticed that the middle supporting pole (Rafter L - fitted when awning not under tension) is damaging the awning van side - very small holes have appeared where the bracket touches the awning. We are fitting the pole as per Fiamma diagram and can see no other way of doing this. Wondering whether anyone else has encountered this problem?
I'm also not entirely sure what you mean. However, I don't think the rafter is meant to take strain (tensile or compressive) as would happen if you wound the canopy in or out with the rafter in place.
As I understand it, you should wind the canopy out all the way, then back off slightly so that it is properly taut, and only then then fit the rafter, with no further winding in or out after fitment of the rafter,
I suspect if you wind the mechanism with the rafter in place you could cause damage (I accidentally damaged a rafter that way once).
We have similar on our awning - then I found that I was putting the rafter in the wrong position. When we bought the MH, we were told to put the MH end of the rafter on the bracket in the centre of the awning housing - which puts the rafter in contact with the awning. The MH end of the rafter should sit off to one side of the bracket, which is fitted to align the centre of the awning when it is retracted, not as a base for the rafter. Maybe this is causing the damage?
Didn't have access to the Internet to read IanA's suggestion and now that we are back home and been to a dealer we realise what we were doing wrong. Like IanA we were fitting the centre pole onto the roller part of the awning instead of off to the side - duuuuh.
Sorry I didn't get back to you all sooner but thought it best to wait until we saw what we were doing wrong.
