If you have an inverter plug your slow cooker in and leave it to do its thing whilst you are under way Smile !!

At the end of your journey you can have a hot meal to enjoy (as well as the lovely smell of it cooking whilst you are driving)

We do this all the time and place the slow cooker in the sink to "capture" any spills (which tend to be very minimal anyway)

Whilst the engine is running it is supplying more than enough charge to the leisure batteries and power the slow cooker as well so you still have "full" leisure batteries when you arrive on site!!

Chilli, curry, stew, you can even "roast" a small chicken (they dont brown off though)

Give it a try, it really works well and saves time/gas/battery power

A very good idea and something we do only slightly differently,we use a Remoska in the sink whilst travelling.(placed on a silicon sheet to protect the sink from the heat)

It does take a lot of current (about 35A according to my Nasa BM1 battery monitor).but it only takes about 30 minutes for a pasty or pizza. So about half an hour before eta mrs wakk switches it on.

The engine alternator does partially replace the current used by the Remoska so we still have plenty left from the 2 x125 A/H Elecsols.

It's great after a long journey to be able to have hot food ready and as mr plodd has said it don't half smell nice whilst you are driving.

As good a reason as I've heard for getting an inverter.

Thanks Plodd and Wakk. Great ideas.

There's me charging up electricals on the way and then having a cold sandwich when we arrive somewhere.

Flat batteries and warm meals next trip!

Waiting for some one to come along and point out that if your killed in a nasty crash that someone will get burnt! Laughing

Use a combo oven for jackets whilst driving, although we run the genny instead of using the inverter but the same end result.

Hot food to break the journey or when you arrive. The smell of it makes you look forward to getting there even more!

There is in fact a 12v Slow Cooker which sounds a bit of a luke warm contraption to me but am assured by Catherine and Chris from The World is Our Lobster that the results are fantastic!

We've got both a mini slow cooker and a Remoska and they're both terrific bits of kit. Cooking as you go along sounds wonderful.

I trawler eBay for an inverter and of course there are several. A lot come with a health warning saying you shouldn't use them for any length of time, which rather defeats the objective.

I 'd welcome advice from those who understand electrics.

Thanks
Susan

Hi Susan,

I have the standard Remoska which we use occasionally whilst driving. You will need at least a 600 watt inverter to supply it.

A word of caution,it does take a significant current of 35 A/H which would soon drain a leisure battery. To mitigate this the engine alternator will put some juice back into the battery but it will still be discharging, unless you have specialist equipment fitted such as a battery to battery charger

I have 2 leisure batteries giving me a capacity of 250A/H and also 160 watts of solar panels so it is not an issue for me as the batteries soon regain their charge, especially in summer.

I would not recommend using the Remoska whilst driving if you only have a single leisure battery and no other means of battery charging. If you have a genny or know that you will have a hook up on the next camp site then you will be fine.

I can see it on my gravestone now......

He managed to avoid the dog but sadly couldn't avoid the large pot of stew that flew down the motorhome and removed his head.

A great loss to his huge group of friends and followers etc.
