I am trying to find the answer on behalf of a very good (but very computer illiterate friend).
I know it has been done to death, but I have been trolling through literally thousands and thousands of posts, and I cannot find a definitive answer.
Could someone PLEASE help me if possible.
Q) If you had a 2.3 Fiat based Van with quite a judder, whilst reversing uphill. What is the level of mod / repair you should be asking Fiat for? (the main agents has confirmed the judder and he is now awaiting a phone call from Fiat to hopefully arrange a repair)
(I have heard such terms as "Scuttle Mod", but it is lost on me).
Ian , our 2.3 dud t have reverse judder but there was a thump on start up, like the engine mountings banging or something, so I contActed fiat and they booked it in for improvements or something they called it, new reverse gear and engine mounts and clutch, now it judders in 1st!!!, I kid you not. Not a big issue and it's not annoying me, hope this helps, ours was 2008

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP / INFO.
I'm not sure what Fiat's policy is now but going back a year or so when my van was sorted the repairs were done as two phases.
Phase 1 was replacement of the engine mountings to a harder compound rubber. If this did not cure the problem then.
Phase 2 was replacement of the reverse gear and changes to the clutch etc.
I have read posts from people whose vans had both phases done at the same time so Fiat may have changed the way they do things.
The scuttle mod was to prevent water from the windscreen leaking through and dripping into the engine compartment.
I have it on good authority that Fiat will no longer fund the scuttle mod or supply the engine cover as it was reportedly fixed after 2009 and their view is that if there was aproblem owners would have complained by now.
As for the judder mod and bang on start up they again are taking the view that 2009 onwards cabs supplied to MH converters were supplied already modified. I believe they are looking at each customer report and then deciding. The view is I suppose that a 2008 supplied cab would have been modified by now if there had been a problem when it was under warrenty.
There is of course no exact corellation between when the cab was built and the MH originally sold.
None of this detracts from my belief, even though I personally have no complaint with the way Fiat dealt with my complaints, is that there should have been recalls for juddergate and scuttlegate and not depended on custome complaints.
