Has anyone looked at the Camos PAPSA Portable Satellite System Plus system. I am looking to changing my current Portable Maxview 66cm dish for a more automatic system. Have read a review in Practical Carvan which rated it quite high, its not cheap at £800 for the Plus system, but like the idea that it is very portable, needs not fitting to the van and can be moved if you changed van with no fitting issues. Advice would be welcome

Thanks Baza

I've recently ordered one of these for a customer. It's not due into the country untill mid october though, so I think the availability has a wait on it. It's the one that you can use across europe well into Spain, so the footprint is very good.

We've recently got in stock the Avtex AQF 431, which is basically the normal PAPSA satellite automatic find satellite. I set it up on my counter to see what it was like hooked up to a TV. It didn't find a signal obviously, because I was in the building. But it automatically raises itself up and then turns around at different heights untill it finds a signal.

It sucker mounts onto a surface so it's not something that you could permanently mount onto the roof and it doesn't come with a decoder, so you obviously need to obtain one of those. Maxview do a satellite decoder for around about £100. But bear in mind that Avtex are looking at building satellite decoders into their TV's.

The only problem, as has already been pointed out, is that there are limited ways of securing it, but I could imagine if you are determined enough you could secure it somehow. Smile

The Maxview V Cube at £499 seems a good option as well.

My personal view on these mobile systems is that they invite theft.

A lot of our viewing is done on the move, Aires, services, overnight stops and would you feel happy using one in these enviroments?

Also bad weather, a night where the wind is howling, and itis peeing down with rain, is the sort of night that we would want to curl up on the setee and watch TV. Not the sort of night to be messing around outside getting very wet very cold and very fed up! Laughing

Buy a dome

Eddie

Thanks Webbs and Eddievanbitz for your replies, understand the issue of theft, but wouldn't leave the system on display when not in the van as for bad weather well you still get that issue with my current Maxview system. I know RoadPro had this system on the web page sometime ago but not seen it since. I was wondering just how good it is and how reliable as well. Dome systems are expensive and I was looking for the cheaper option and of course an easy setup. I have looked at EasyFind LNB's but they are not for using with a Sky Box which I take with us, so any advice out there would be welcome
Thanks Basa

The Maxview system is easy to use and works very well.

The VDO dome made by WiWorld can be bought for as little as £999 for self install and can easily be used as a stand alone system if storage is not the main problem.

We have supplied domes to people that have not wanted to install them due to buying new vans and they simply have put them on tables under the awning Surprised Surprised us, but a really good way of having a dome if you don't want holes drilled in your roof.
