We got great advice here last year when planning our holidays, so we're turning to you all again. We have the earlier part of our trip worked out, which includes meeting our daughter and son-in-law and two small grandchildren at Disneyland Paris and then driving with them toward Lyon for a lazy few days, before depositing them at Lyon airport! We then have a week free before meeting my sister at Bergamo. We went into Italy via Cuneo last year which we enjoyed, and returned to France via Mont Blanc Tunnell. We're thinking of heading form Lyon to the coast and entering Italy via Nice etc. One concern is the many comments about awful traffic jams on this coastal route. Has anyone got any good ideas for routes?? Our van is 7 metres long, so that is a consideration.
Thanks a lot

Hi Mary

Just check you have the right Lyons airport ! Some years ago we nearly left our son at a small local aerodrome ( Valence) which we had been assured was the airport ! When we did find the right one we parked the van at the Hertz car rental depot as there were height barriers on the car parks. Hertz were very happy with this. This was 1995 however so things might well have changed but worth a check.

PS we spent the night before at Camping le Mas au Foret, Herieux near Lyons which I have recorded as being very pleasant. It was close to the autoroute that goes past Lyons airport and to Grenoble.

Hi Grizzly,

Thanks for that heart-stopping thought!! I hope we've got the right airport, but I'll double check with Aer Lingus before we travel. Thanks also for the campsite, which we may well mosey by.
