well i went to the nec to get an in motion sat dome.
after talking to most of the dealers i am now completely lost as to what i should buy .
all i want is to have the radio on. in english while we are over seas.it will be used for the telly as well.
in our m/home we have an avtex telly (told this is good).
about the best i have seen was from a company called that lesisure
i have never heard of them before the show.any one had any dealings with them .
they are a long way from my home as i live near northampton and they are in leeds.
iam hoping some one that has an in motion sat can tell me how they get on with theres
thanks
I can understand why you want to listen to English radio stations whilst abroad. The most important consideration is the reception area or footprint of your chosen dome, bearing in mind they are only a 40cm dish.
In France you will be fine with a dome,my 30cm dome worked well right down to the med, where I started to lose BBC1 and some weaker radio stations, any further south however and you will struggle. In S.Spain and Portugal a lot of ex pats use a minimum 1 mt. dish to receive sky.
Depends on how far south you intend to travel but I suggest that in Southern Spain and Portugal a dome would be a waste of time.

how far South on the continent do you intend to travel firewood ?
If all you want is a system to listen to the radio on, why would you need an In-Motion satellite system ? (This allows you to watch tv whilst driving the motorhome, with the caveat that this only works well on something like a motorway / autoroute with clear line of sight to the satellite)
our Satellite Dome Assistant may help as well allowing you to easily compare 'like with like', feel free to PM me or phone on 01395 830230 / 0845 8698940 during working hours
sorry i should of put we are going to be going to the south of spain .
the radio is more important to me then the telly .
or is there another way to get english radio that i dont know about
Hi radio 2 is on astra 2a so at least you'll have a better strength of signal, youll need a very good giro based system to hold the lmb onto the lmb on the satellite as soon as you loose line of sight of the satellite you are going to have probs and then the system will start looking for the required program.... If I was wanting that type I would go for a marine system like the ten haft system... If you need any more info please pm me.... I must admit I have tried a cheap system and it was not so good at relocking any tree any overhead building etc and I totally agree you need a clear motorway to have the radio going.... I to would like to have the radio on while I'm driving in France etc.... Any further than say french Spanish border forget it..... If you need the radio from astra 2a you may need a fixed dish and at least 1.2mtr for the south of Spain....
You would be better to use the Internet and stream the radio program perhaps? At a fixed location...
Since you are in Northants, why not talk to RoadPro? They are at Daventry and have a lot of experience of domes. I know from talking to Andy, the owner, that he has used an in-motion dome to listen to radio whilst travelling abroad.
I have a static dome (supplied by RoadPro) and it is connected to the radio via an extra feed from the digibox, but of course, we can only listen when parked.

Tend to agree with Clive,I know its a fag to need the internet but on sites where we ARE connected I have found "tuneinradio" to be really good.
In addition to streaming your favourite radio station if you get bored its fun to listen to some of the worldwide channels it lists also, some weird stuff out there
I'm no tecno wizzard but surley the solution to this problem is simple!
Connect to radio 2 via your lap top, via a wi fi connection!

Philip
The OP wants to be able to listen to radio whilst on the move when abroad. hence, no option to listen to UK terrestrial transmitters, neither to connect to WiFi on the move - unless there is some amazingly cheap 3G or 4G dongle option that I'm unaware of. An in-motion satellite dome can provide what he wants, albeit with limitations as to continuity of signal, dependant upon the topography.
