Hi,

Has anyone set up a freeview (or pay tv) card in the smartcard module of the UFS 740 sw receiver that comes with the system? If so was it easy and works well? What did you use?

Alternatively has anyone utilised the second receiver connection to fit a laptop with a satellite usb card?

We find that many of the channels we can view with the freeview box at home are locked out on the Kathrein. I was looking at a way to unlock some of the channels and (if using the laptop) to have a way of recording.
Many thanks
Brian

Freeview and Freesat are two different things however I dont find I miss out on much so give us 3 or 4 channels you want to watch but cant get then we can advise you better on how to get them if possible. I have a sky 12v box on the second Co-Ax and an Iomega Pro HD player/recorder so I can watch one channel from one box and record another from the other box it all works splendidly.

C7KEN thanks for your comments.

Channels such as Yesterday, Dave and Quest to name a few are all locked out. I realise freesat is different to freeview. I am keen to utilise the Kathrein box if possible, or the laptop we already carry.

I may just experiment with a usb tv card on the laptop.
Thanks again
Brian

And there is a very good reason why youcannot get them and they are locked out......

Those channels are free on Freeview.
Those channels are are not available on Freesat.
They are Sky subscription chanenls on satellite.

So the only way to unlock them via satellite is to pay for a Sky subscription and use a Sky box...

however, no nonsky receivers offically support NDS (the encryption used by Sky). But there are some boxes that do read sky cards (eg ferguson Ariva), which also has USB PVR abilities...

There is NO "Freeview" card...as Freeview is the free to air terrestrial TV service.
TOP UP TV Is the pay TV service on the terrestrial system - and you need a card and subscirption for that.
