Which towbar?

As part of my grand plan to upgrade my m/h and either carry or tow a motorbike I need to have a towbar fitted.

It turns out even this is not straightforward.

Watling engineering can do one of their own for me. Their design is robust and can in principle carry a scooter rack and scooter (even if I may ultimately opt for a trailer).

However, my motorhome has a 'type approved' Witter towbar developed in collaboration between Elddis and Witter. This costs about £ 200 more than the Watling version and has a weight limit of 100kg.

If I fit the 'type approved' towbar this presumably provides some legal/warranty protection which the non type approved one would lack. However the non-approved one seems cheaper and stronger.

I am tempted to go for the cheaper option. Is this a sensible/wise thing to do? Am I missing any killer arguments in favour of the Witter version? Any thoughts gratefully received.

I had some bars made at Watling for a scooter rack. I spoke to the owner about the type approval and he told me motorhomes fall out side of the normal rules as there is not enough of them for type appoval.
But this may have changed since speaking t him just over 3 years ago.

I have a PWS rack very good well made and you would not need the towbar.

Ring them up and speak to them they are good people to do business with.
