My trusty local garage which always comes up trumps for me has just replaced the broken thermostat on my 1994 Ducato-based Dethleffs Globetrotter, and also noticed that the radiator cap is failing to maintain the pressure in the cooling system.
Problem they've his it since it's a German import (LHD) they can't seem to get the correct engine type down to ensure the correct cap.
Apparently it's not a problem that will stop me getting to Scotland and back from Essex next week, but I'd obviously like things to be running as they should!
Anyone here know where to go?
Steve

Apparently without a properly functioning radiator cap, all the water simply pumps out of the overflow pipe as you drive, leading to overheating.
I found this out after about an hour's drive away from home today.
Came home on the back of an AA truck
Now really need that new rad cap. Will continue searching t'interweb, but if anyone has any ideas, they will all be gratefully received.
Now driving up to Dundee in a Kia Picanto, which simply doesn't have the sleeping space of a Dethleffs Globetrotter, so will end up in a Premier in for two nights then schlep back down again. Boo. Not happy.

______________________________________________________________ Still sat here in front of the computer - it may be in the office, or on the laptop if I manage to get away from the office.
As far as I know, the only motorhoming Oxford United supporter in Bognor.
Yes, Mike, that's what I would have thought, but my mate at the garage reckons the Fiat rad cap is usually a screw cap rather than the bayonet version I've got.
He even sent it off to several of the parts suppliers who he normally uses and they've not been able to match it.
I'm sure I remember my dad using an old rag to stop up the rad when he lost one many years ago?

It's a long shot but try Towtal I think it is they got me a Dethleffs gas locker lock they ask Deadlegs directly. Www.towtal.co.uk. They offer a super service for anything Deadlegs!
Ok, just got back from a few days away to find a shiny new cap had been left at home by the chaps from the garage (they were extremely embarrassed that we got brought home on the back of an AA truck...)
I'll try it out tomorrow - fingers crossed!
Steve
(Towtal info stored for future use though - thanks Greenie!)
