I have a Bessacarr E435 09 Plate, which came supplied with a Blaupunkt Sat Nav, with a built in reversing Camera connection. The Blaupunkt model I have is no longer supported for map upgrades, which makes it redundant to my needs.
I am looking to replace it with the one of the Snooper range of Sat Navs, but would like to keep the Blaupunkt and try somehow to convert it into a permanent rearview camera as I tow a Bike Trailer.
Is it possible to somehow to use the current reversing connection wiring to do this, as currently the rearview display is only activated when reverse is selected?

Why is it redundant, there are not that many new roads built each year, My maps are 7 years out of date, but I always get where I need to go as it just goes along the roads it knows about, if the road has changed, it usually ends up connecting up aGAin further on.

Having just acquired the same setup myself, I'm not finding the lack of updates a problem yet...must say, it performs better than the TomTom.

It's a very strange decision by the manufacturers not to update the maps...apparently its only UK maps that are not upodating, the rest of Europe are available. Some discussion about it at the Swift Talk forum

I'm not sure how you would convert it as you want...the Cradle and cabling seems to be specific to that setup.

Might I suggest a visit to a very good GPS web site I'm a life time member so if you'd like to ask specific question or two once you've looked, just PM me the details.

Thanks for the responses, but my question was about using the Blaupunkt into a permanent rearview camera, most of the responses, and much appreciated they are, have been about why I want to change my Satnav's.

True, but the suggestions are keeping the thread alive and it may also help others with the same set up who would like to keep the system they already have.

Your problem is that it's a relatively newish van and it might not have been thought of changing it's use.

I suppose in your situation, I'd be first trying to make the sat nav dead, which in itself might make the camera permanent, as for making it work with the Snooper, I doubt that but it might be possible, have you contacted the manufacturer of the unit yet to see if they can help.

Very Happy Any advice is always welcome. The idea I had was to make use of any old SatNav monitor which had the reverse camera facility.

I put this question onto the Swift forum and had an interesting response, which said if I removed the Live feed for the Camera which is connected to the reversing light and reconnect it to a Live feed to the Ignition, I should get a Permanent Rearview display.
This of course makes the Monitor redundant for Satnav purposes, so you would need an additional system/monitor for Satnav.

regards Basa
