Hi,

Quick answer-I also have 2x80watt panels that are controlled by a 10A Steca regulator.

80W divide by 12V = 6.66 amps. so yes 10A controller will be fine.

Hi Trevor

Because there are 2 of them shouldn't the math doubled to 160w for the calculation?

You maybe correct but i thought that solar panels were rated at about 16 or 17 volts(and not 12)

Oops, yes you are quite correct. My typing fingers are working faster than brain today Embarassed Embarassed

80W divide by 17.5V = max current of 4.57 amps each panel.

So for 2X 80W a 10A controller will still be just OK. Remember max or 4.57 Amps is only achieved under full sun at midday in the tropics so usually less in the UK.

Seems in the right ball park Trevor, the highest output I have seen on the Steca regulator(2 x 80watt solar panels) has been 9.2 A on a sunny day in July.

My 7.5 amp controller is rated suitable for 180 watts, according to its literature.
