As it says in the title how on earth can you improve the reception on a I Pad both wi fi and mobile 3G?
It doesn't have USB connection, but I understand you can buy an adaptor. Why do you need a USB connection for these external aerials.
Is it just for power? As you can tell I am not a techy - the kids bought me an I pad for my birthday and just getting to grips with it.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Hi I don't think you can extend your wifi on your ipad , the kit that you can buy to plug in to the ipad is for you to connect a camera or sd card, its £25 and no good for any thing else, so its crap, and i'm a lover of anything apple make.
Easy.
Get yourself a 3 or other WiFi remote hub £65 into which you put a data card that 4? or more wifi linked phones, pads and laptops can work
Put the hub outside the van (on the bonnet in my case with a bit of gaffer tape) when you need to connect and retrieve it when finished.
I have one which i use 2 different service provider cards in and its works a treat.
May be totally wrong on this one but my understanding is that you can only use a 3 wifi to get internet access on the iPad.
We do not have very good reception where we live and when I went into PC World (or Comet of Currys dont know which) they said you can only use 3 for mobile wifi on the iPad so I'm a bit stymied.
Curtisden - isnt that asking for trouble leaving the hub on your bonnet even if it is gaffer taped on? We leave ours either in one of the front recepticles when driving or on the top of the lounge cushions when on site and we can generally pick up the signals then (although in some more remote spots we cannot get a signal).
I think the hub will actually do 5 connections. but I am not 100% on that.
I use mine for any wifi connection, pc apple and smartphone, works with any.
It's a unlocked unit and so will take any data card even a French one when places frog!
they all do some type now.
Always buy a new card rather than top up you get more for less.

Oh yes forgot.
Don't leave it on the bonnet. Just when I am on line on site.
Better reception and works a treat.
Also have 3G on both I pads which we can use as well while on the move.
All payg but the hubb is cheaper per mb on a 3 g card for 3 months.

I can personally vouch for the 3 mobile broadband thingy, as above.
Firstly it saved me about £100 on the iPad, cause I dont need the 3G.
It has a rechargable battery, just like a mobile phone, so yes you can charge it from 12v using a small inverter. I do.
Just park it somewhere in the van and it will operate, I think, up to 3 iPads, Laptops, whatever, wirelessly, and I have only so far come across 2 sites where the signal was too iffy to be effective.
I chose to pay £15.99 per month which gives me 15Gb of downloads which I have never yet exceeded.
Used it for 2 weeks at home when I was changing Broadband provider and it was great.
Best bit of advice I ever had from the previously useless Curry's staff when I bought it.
