hi there, thought id intro myself instead of just lurking around,im Eddie and i live in Doncaster,After spending the last couple of yrs dreaming of owning a mh and visiting most of the mh shows and seeing my brother in law spend over 40k on a new coach build at the nec,way out of my pocket, ive been thinking of doing a self build,
im a gardener by trade, but im a very keen and competent mechanic and will tackle most jobs around a vehicle, one of my hobbies includes classic kitcars, the jago geep in particular of which i own 3 at the moment,2 are on the road and one in resto with a modern twist to the running gear as they're based on the mk 1 and 2 escorts,
my daughter is also into horse riding so i have so far built 2 horse box's based on the renault master maxi roof's,so im not afraid of the angle grinder and jigsaw,
i reckon i have most of the tools and equipment, angle grinder, jig saw, roughter, cordless drill/screwdrivers,and plenty enthusiasm
i have a decent 16x16 garage and a carport i built big enough to park a renault master under,
not sure on what van i want to use, whether to go the ducato/boxer/relay route or stick with the master, not keen on mercs or iveco's but i quite like the tag axle mini bus ive seen on ebay a few times
well thats me for now (must me my longest post on any forum iv joined)so look forward to hearing from you and your views cheers
oh i will be signing up to both this and the sbmcc as soon as i can
eddie
heres my car/van port with one of my horsebox's in progress

a couple of in progress shots

how i slept in it at car shows

one of the geeps this one a 2.3v6 which i a frame behind van

my first one in action

hope im not breaking any rules with all these pictures just say if so
cheers for now

Hello Eddie, and welcome.

Great to have another automotive technician on here. Mk 1 and 2 Escorts are definitely my favourite vehicle. (mostly because of the rally history).

I am more than willing to help with your home build if I can. I can only give you advise or details for other suppliers though, as this is not the place for selling.

Welcome from me, as well.

I can't see you have any real diffulty doing a self-build project, judging by the horsebox conversion.

Hi Eddie, I probably don't have a tenth of your skills and I'm going to have a go, we bought a Movano, but have reconsidered and will be looking into either a Ducato LWB or a Sprinter/LT35 if we find the right combination of mileage/condition/price.

Nice horseboxes, maybe you're in the wrong game as a gardener #Black smile

Hi Eddie,
My first van was a selfbuild which I really enjoyed doing on a Mk6 transit hightop.
I got most of my info from HERE.
Best of luck.

Hi Edz! If I were to do another conversion, I'd want something like the minibus you've linked to. One reason is the perpendicular sides which would make it easy to use flat-pack furniture from Wickes or B&Q etc... whilst maximizing the floor area.

I would keep the rear doors and develop a patio area, with canopy over, so that the fresh air could be enjoyed even when it's raining! Wink

The main issue with the bus, of course, is the lack of double glazing. Is it possible to frame the sides out to receive domestic style units, or can the originals be replaced by double glazed units?

Whichever, I wish you well. Wink

Well done Melly for mentioning the SBMCC. Cool
