Hello,

Does anyone have any experience of These Bose surround sound systems please?.

Thinking of Splashing out and upgrading the sound on our MH TV. I don't watch much TV. But when we put a film on. The sound is like pins in a
biscuit tin!.

They are suitable for PC's and some TV's via the headphone jack.

TM,

I guess there must be places you can go and listen to them, say in Manchester.

Weybridge Audio are a very reputable retailer in the South - we live close by and have often been in their shop.

I would speak to them I am sure they will give you an honest opinion but as last poster said Bose is good stuff, can't really go wrong.

Hi Teemyob,
I have a set of Bose Companion 3 speakers and use them at home hooked up to the iMac, these are absolutely fantastic for home use and you would not be disappointed. However, I put them into our motorhome (Rapido 7065+) to try and the bass (Sub woofer) response is so deep the motorhome seems to amplify this even at very low volumes. At a volume I would like whilst watching a film like 007 Casino Royale I walked outside whilst the film was playing and you would wake to whole campsite or anyone within 50 yards or your van. I would 'not' consider these systems suitable based on the bass response alone unless you were very isolated. Having talked to our local ICE specialist anything with a sub woofer will have the same effect. I am looking at a pair of wireless headphones which will give the same results and there may be even dual sets that er' indoors can wear at the same time. Hope this helps

I had to time to kill the other day, so I wasted it in Comet. They had one connected to a Samsung LED TV and I thought the sound was awesome. It was the Sub Woofer I was worrying about making too much noise.

I have had a Bose and Harmann Kardon Sound system in cars. The Bose was far superior to the later.

If I buy, I am going to find an independent dealer and have already registered with Weybridge who have no stock of the 5.

Thanks for the reply.

I used to work for Bose while at Uni, I don't really rate it myself and we spent many evenings in the shop after hours demoing the systems against competitor rigs but its a good 'out of the box' solution for most people who don't want to mix and match - but sometimes have a lot of cables you'd need to hide.

Do have a look at some of the Logitech stuff which is great value - we pitched a couple of their small 2+1 speaker systems against the Bose 3-2-1 on which the 5 Series is based in there was not a lot of difference. A lot of Bose is marketing - especially with the Wave Radio's you see in Readers Digest.

I would question if you would need a Sub Woofer in a motorhome and the difficulty with Bose systems is they don't function without it or even well without it placed on the right type of surface or location. The speakers themselves are very trebley and you need to position your sub just right in order to cancel it out and if it vibrates and you turn it right down it can sound awful. Set up properly they can sound great.

For the motorhome TV I would be very much inclined to look at some Car Audio systems which would be more energy efficient while on 12v if this is a consideration. You could pair up a very nice pair of speakers with a small amplifier run directly from the TV and add a sub woofer at a later stage should you choose - not all Car Audio stuff is for boy racers. If you could flush mount two speakers in a good location this would be well worth considering.

If it has to be Bose then try and find a Bose Factory Outlet, they sell refurbished / returns at such good discounts that they're cheaper then some of the second hand stuff on eBay

Hope some of that is of use!
