Hello

We own a Murvi Morello, 11 years old. It has 12 volt sockets. We are six months into our nine month trip around Europe (I have only had the Murvi - Nerys, for 1 year, so am very happy Smile

I've been looking for a fan heater. Not for the cigarette lighter, but for the 12v sockets (have solar panel and drive lots so the leisure batteries get well charged).

Can anyone give me any pointers? I am struggling.

Thank you very much.

Caroline

hi seiglow. there is some on e-bay & 12v electric blankets. they will take a lot out of your battery personally i would go a different direction .jud

Hi Caroline

Using any space heating device from a 12v socket is usually inappropriate. Most 12v motorhome sockets will be restricted to a maximum of 10 amps by their wiring, occasionally they will be capable of 15 amps (usually cigar lighter types) but 10 amps is the safe norm.

This means that any appliance used from those sockets cannot safely exceed 120 watts total power. This amount of power wouldn't provide enough energy to warm the interior of a M/H to any practical degree and would also flatten your battery quite rapidly (yes, even with solar panels and lots of driving). Imagine hanging a 120 watt light bulb in the middle of the van as a heating source and you can imagine how much heat you'll generate.

Some heating devices such as blankets may be feasible but they'll still flatten your battery quickly if you leave them on for any length of time. Best policy is to accept that any heating device should be used on 240v, not 12v.
