Just bought an updated translation software package.
Have been using Reverso Voice 98 for many years on all my PCs.
So it was time to update and the new "Reverso Translator 11" looked good on the French e-bay at €40. There is a later version 12.
But after installing the CD sucessfully (it said) nothing works.

I initially get a message "Translator server is not available". So reboot and eventually get a window for the translator. But as soon as I type or paste any text into the 'box' it vanishes. Keep trying and get a message "It seems the translation server is unavailable. Would you like to restart the translation server immediately?".
e
But nothing happens. I disabled my firewall and tried again but just the same.

Any ideas please?

Ray.

I presume ray in needs to connect over the Internet to a database so as there are no install errors I would say your in the right area disabling firewalls etc. Have you disabled the windows built in one or your third party one?

My best guess would be to see if there is an Internet forum for this software or google the exact error message. It's bound to have happened to someone else. If not can you try a different pc?

Sorry not much help

Does this software give you anything Google translate doesn't (working off-line would be one thing I guess)?

Otherwise for most purposes Google Translate, or Yahoo Babel fish should do the job for you for free - but only when you are online, of course.

Edit

Reverso Voice is also online, free

Hi Barry.
Only have the Windows firewall.
Have been searching the net for any problems with 'Reverso' software. Must be good as I can't find any. It's just me.
As the PC I installed it on is Windows 7 I will have to try my older Vista machine. But as I have my old Reverso on that I thought it might conflict if I didn't remove it first???

Thanks Clive, same thing as I have already reinstalled three times now.

Trev, You are right about there being many online translations. I guess I have got used to having mine handy on my toolbar and offline when answering French queries.
I have 8 or 10 items for sale on a French site and am always needing to translate fast.

Hopefully 'Softissimo' will get around to answering my e-mail plea for help. Or it's back to my old 98 translator.

Thanks Ray.

I would hang fire installing or removing off the vista machine as you may end up with two non working copies.

Are you sure it's windows 7 compatible?

I googled it and couldn't find much either.
