I hope someone can help us. We are residents in Spain and have brought a 1997 Iveco Daily selfbuilt motorhome for trips back to the uk and for holidays. The problem is we have spanish driving licenses, this is because in the old days we hade to have a Spanish licence for a Spanish car, but have a uk address. Any insurance company we have spoken to want a uk license or want from £1100 third party only! Will we have try and get our uk driving licenses back, and how do you do this? or does someone know of a company that will take us at a realistic price?
Hi Costaman.
I see you are resident in Spain but do you have residentia, if so, I have the same problem. So, what do we do, I have been looking for a m/h for a while.Problems, it would be a LOT easier to buy a Spanish reg one (at a crazy price). I think to import a r/h drive m/h which you would have to put on Spanish plates is not allowed (at any price). You could import a l/h drive but it is very expensive to get it matriculated. I have even thought of giving up my residentia and going back to "livińg"in the uk to get round this problem. All the best.
tuk-tuk.
We are trying to get uk insurance as the van is uk reg. We could not change the plates to spanish, we did try.
I surrendered my uk license to get a spanish one and do not know if I can swap back.
Hi Costaman.
All the info re your licence is available for download on the DVLC / DVLA web site (like living in the uk for 185 days). I think it is illegal to drive a vehicle with non Spanish plates (in Spain)
if you have Spanish residencia. Remember,if any insurance company can get out of a claim it will do.
