Can anyone confirm (or not) that the new Customs "allowances" for Tobacco and Cigs are in force yet?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/apr/27/clampdown-on-duty-free-tobacco-limits

Some places I've looked say the new (1kg/800cigs) limits are being imposed as of this month, other places still show the old 3kg/3200cigs limits.

Day tripper.net which is usually well up to date on such matters doesn't mention it - if it was being enforced I'm sure they would have gone ballistic by now.

Any recent experiences?

no, but what happened to the "personal use" rule - if you buy a load of ciggies and you're a smoker, surely it would be easy to show that somking xx a day you would use xxxx a year, and you only go once a year etc etc. Same as when we come back with cases of wine - we tend to go twice a year, and come back with 6 months worth.

Of course if you approach the customs in your motorhome with 50,000 cigarettes on board, and get pulled over, you should absolutely reek of cigarette smoke to stand ANY chance of getting away with it...... Laughing

Nothing, it still applies, but the no questions asked "guidance" has been cut from 3kgs of baccy to 1kg and the 3200cigs has been cut to 800.

Gemmy must have good contacts as the cigar and cigarillo amounts are unchanged at 200 & 400.

No changes to the booze volumes either - just baccy and cigs.
