Hi folks.

Just got myself a Huawei 583c mifi gizmo and it has an external antenna socket.(CRC9 I know you can get adaptors)
I just wondered if anyone could recommend an antenna I could plug into it just to improve things when I have a weak/no signal.

Thanx in advance

Gray

I found the best way to improve reception was a mixture of both new antenna and better location.

I fixed the dongle inside a small waterproof tupperwear box and attached a USB extension to the USB end. Then using a CRC9 to RP-SMA adapter drilled a hole through the box and held the adapter captive with a nut and the dongle to the roof of the box on its side with some Velcro. Ideally you do not want anything with any length of cable because the loss it creates will counteract any signal improvement.

Once you have your little box with a SMA connector on the top you can choose any sort of regular Wifi antenna you wish. I like to pay a little more and get something branded like this Alfa:

Hi Gray,
I have the earlier version of this device, the E5830 which doesn't have the external antenna option.
If I'm in an area with poor or no reception I fix it to the top of a 5 metre telescopic flagpole and so far, on only one occasion have I not been able to get at least a 3G signal.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Addie you have lost me with this dongle USB business.
This gadget I've got (Huawei 583c) is a pointer wireless hub it has a external socket which is a CRC9 which is for a external aerial.
I was really after a recommendation for a aerial I could just shove in it to improve reception while mobile/on site.
Anyway thanks but I'm not very techy minded so any help would be appreciated.

Gray
