This month's (December 2011) MMM magazine has a piece about a VOSA recall on Citroen and Peugeot spare wheels (p174). The fault is apparent on Fiats too but Fiat will only replace the faulty spare wheel mechanism if the owner complains and they have not issued a recall via VOSA. It seems the fault means that the spare wheel is liable to fall off and, in some cases, already has done so !.
The vehicles affected are:
Citroen Relay recall number R/2011/093
VIN start: VF*******11032532
VIN end: VF****** 11316369
Build start 18/07/2006
End 18/10/2007
Fiat Ducato Recall number R/2011/098
VIN start: ZFA25000001000371
End: ZFA25000001203101
Build start: 01/04/2006
End: 31/12/2008

Interesting !
Thanks Trev; don't bank on being e-mailed however. We are registered with the Fiat Camper website, we have one of the VIN numbers affected and we have not had an e-mail. Phoning our dealer in 1st on the TO Do list for tomorrow.

Are you sure you have activated the automatic notification. Log into your account in the Premium area and by default the activate button is deactivated. Click on the activate button (in Italian) and you should receive automatic notification.
Confused
My understanding is that vehicles fitted with manufacturers spare wheel as standard are panel vans not motorhomes. How would Camper Care know who to contact or will it be blanket cover just in case?
Steles
I had the modification done a couple of months ago.
One point to note is that the winder socket on the spare wheel cradle is at a different angle than the original.
This means if your spare wheel winder was a fixed horizontal type it may have to be modified.
Originally the winder on my Chausson went through the motorhome's skirt and attached to a horizontal spindle connected to the cradle.
Now as the cradle's winder socket is set at a downward angle and obviously the winder spindle is made redundant. So the garage have welded the new supplied socket drive onto the original spindle which only just allows the cradle mechanism to be operated.
I look forward even less to a flat tyre now.

How were you notified ? We seem to have been left out of the loop. The message on our account page of Fiat Camper is that our chassis has no problems but our VIN number and dates come within the recall details given.
Getting our spare wheel out-something we've done twice now- is a pain anyway as we have a low chassis and not much room to manoeuvre. Sounds like it could be even more trouble in the future.
I just had the same e-mail and our VIN number is actually higher then the ones listed further up this thread. It is a 2007 panel van conversion.
My spare wheel cage had actually failed when I attempted to remove and check the spare (posted about it here) and not wanting to spend £250 + labour including removal and re-fitting of my towbar I put a 3 ton ratchet strap across it to keep it in situe.
Just contacted them and confirmed it was now a recall and they will pay for it to be replaced and removal and refitting of the towbar on my return in March 2012.
