Hi

Our N&B Arto 2003 based on Fiat 2.8 will not start, juat as we are about to go away for the night!

Has a Sigma M30 alarm/immobiliser fitted. This appears to be functioning correctly.

All the usual lights come on on the dash, but when you turn the key to the start position nothing happens. (other than the 'oil light' goes very dim).

Any ideas?

I'm stumped.

Thanks

Val

Edited to add that the battery is fully charged!

Have you tried jump leads? It could be a battery (or an earth) fault.

If lights are dimming it's probably a bad battery earth connection. Check it and clean it, good luck, Alan.

Addie has made me think. Are you sure the battery is not flat?

Definately not battery, headlights do not dim when trying to start, its only the oil light on the dash that dims, all the others stay normal brightness.

any other ideas?

Val

Have you checked the battery earth, a big load (starter) would cause a disconnect where a small load (lights) would not. Earth is favourite, Alan.

Have you considered the connections to the starter motor/starter motor itself may be faulty? Is power reaching the starter motor terminals?

OK, well looks like we are going nowhere Sad

Checked cleaned and re made the main earth to the chassis, then went to the main link to the starter motor. Bolt sheared clean off, wrist smacked into radiator, blood and lots of nasty words followed.

New starter ordered, should be here in the morning.

Just hope thats the problem!

Do you have AA homestart?

If you have a policy with Safeguard then it is included as standard.

Hi Addie,

Yes, got home start.

I've just managed to get the starter off, and the connection for the main earth (that is bolted to the aluminium casing) is well corroded. Had the bolt not sheared, I would clean it all up and pop it back on and be quite hopeful that that might have been the problem, but as it did shear, I'll put a new starter on just to be sure.

I've stopped bleeding now, still bl**dy swearing though!

Could be worse you could have put the spanner through the radiator. Very Happy
