I have fitted a 80 watt solar panel to my Autotrail Cheynne 660 2008, the systems uses Sargent Electrics EC325PSU with a built in 100 watt solar panel regulator. I have connected up to the ES325PSU using the dedicated wiring kit supplied by Sargent Electrics.

However, after all these years of put off solar panels, I have now decided I want more power, more panels, sounds familiar?

So I asked Sargent Electrics if I could upgrade my panel to take more than the designed 100 watts, unfortunately this cannot be done, however, there is a solution.

Sargent Electric have a lead part no. WB1021, listed for the PSU2007 & EC225 units, this can be used on the EC325 units. This allows access to both leisure and vehicle batteries without running any further cables than the PSU locker. It would require a separate regulator, but it is rated for 10 amps. In use, the EC325 battery connection is unplugged and the WB1021 plugged in line, you the have fused connections to both leisure and vehicle batteries.

I the asked can I leave the current set up in place, and purchase a new WB1021 and connect up to the new panel(s) to a new 10 amp regulator using the WB1021 lead to the EC325PSU unit ?

Sargent Electrics reply ' Yes, that will work perfectly, and has been carried out by quite a few people with factory fitted solar panels.

Daniel Howlett at Sargents Electrics has given their kind permission to put this information on the Motorhomefacts to help other Autotrail owners.

Thanks.
Very useful, I was about to order a lead today but may now consider getting 2 x 80w panels and connect as you mentioned..

You can always just buy a cheap regulator fit your 80/120 watt panel to the roof and just wire up to the battery. Most panels come with 5mtrs of lead so not much to buy. It will all work together with what you already have. You could then wire the new panel/regulator to any batteries you have on or off the van such as car or motorbike.

I have that now on my current van..
However with the power supply being in a top locker and it already having a 100w regulator built in it will make it a nice easy job.
1 hole in roof and a few feet of wire, Bingo job done.. Very Happy

Update.. Just emailed Sargent to double check and my Autotrail will have the new EC500 PSU and that will only accept 1 dedicated solar input rated max 120w..

So looks like if I want more than 120w it's the seperate regulator and straight to battery route...

If you use a MPPT contoller you will get more out of your panels
