Hi does anyone have a chieftain and tow a scooter? We are contemplating buying a chieFtain and have a Yamaha vity 125cc which we would like to tow - any advice would be really welcome.
Thanks hazel
Hi, towed a trailer with a Vespa 125 behind our Bessicarr 795 all over europe, have tried a scooter rack which just keeps within the van weight limit but the van does not handle well, trailer works well once you get used to it we also carry our bikes and some times a tinker sailing dingy. The scooter is great transport able to park easily get to places cars cant go. we found the best accessory for the scooter if carrying a passenger was an intercom, hope this is helpful, cheers Lawrence
We tow a Honda PCX 125 behind our van. It's barely noticeable even with the very very low power engine that we have (1.9d non turbo).
We use a EasyLifter Hydra Trail which is fixed in position, only the wheels swivel like a shopping trolley. The benefit of this is that reversing is no problem whatsoever. I believe the new EzeTow is a similar idea.
If you go for a conventional type of trailer then reversing could be a problem. The longer the trailer, the easier it is to control but also you are adding to your overall length considerably, the shorter trailers are almost impossible to reverse without jacknifing.
I tow a racing motorcycle on a Trelgo trailer and have no trouble at all. Don't worry about reversing just don't rush it. Sit in the cab for a few moments and think about which way you need to turn the steering wheel, then do it gently and watch the trailer in the mirrors. Small corrections are all you need to keep it going where you want to. Just remember that if you really get in a mess it only takes a few minutes to disconnect the trailer and put it back on when everything is straight, and yes I have done it.
Start at page 26 to get the info that you need!! (re the CCJ)
Quite a few owners have all sorts of issues with them. One member has a CCJ against the manufacturer
I am also of the opinion, seconded by VOSA or D of T that the unit does not comply with the Con and Use regulations (lack of springs )so is not therefore legal for use on the road.
Rather than going into details check out the post. If you want further details PM me for a phone number and I will explain.
I have towed a 125 honda scooter on a trailer behind my Autotrail Cheyeene 840D with no problems. As to reversing if you are not sure just unhitch then move then hitch it up again.
Your unit is the same length as mine and the scooter trailers are not that wide so watching their direction in reverse is very hard as you cannot see it unless you have a camera. Dont worry you'll find a way.
