I need to get an awning fitted to my Rapido. I expect I will need a 4.5m or probably a 5m long type.

Any recommendations please?

Cheers,

Richard

I have owned both Fiamma and an Omnistor on my current van.

Although there is little between them - they are both good - my preference would be for Fiamma as

1. The legs are adjusted by a screw mechanism as opposed to the spring mechanism on an Omnistor which I do not like.

2. Fiamma kits often comes with a sealing strip between the blind and motorhome - without it water drips into the habitation door.
Omnistor blinds do not come with this and are an expensive essential extra which you will find you will need after you have purchased the blind.

3.The tensioning/centre poles are preferable on the Fiamma. The Omnistor poles are an accident waiting to happen as they are spring loaded and if you are not very careful you will end up scartching the side of your van.

4. On my Omnistor the feet have become detached from the legs.

5. I think the fabric on the Fiamma is thicker with a plasticised coating making it far easier to clean the blind.

Just to balance things up the Omnistor is better in terms of fixing a tie down kit if you use your blind in windy conditions. The Fiamma arrangement for tie down kits is less than satisfactory compared with the Omnistor.

Sorry to disagree, but the omnistor is better built. I manufacture blocker panels and rooms for both, and have tested a number or rafter poles. The fiamma rafter broke in less wind than a cheap extending clothes prop.

Re tie downs I make the slot in type for both types of awning and both brands can be tied down the same.

I'd disagree again, to be honest. I've had both, and there's precious little to choose between them IMHO.

Aspects of the Omnistor are better built, e.g. I managed to slightly bend the front of our Fiamma winding it in when the wind got up. However against that the material of the Fiamma is better plasticized (sp?)...Omnistor recommend it not to be used in rain (how do they have the cheek to market it in the UK?!?), and the Fiamma rafter plus (curved one that tensions the fabric) is head & shoulders better than the Omnistor equivalents.

If I were having one fitted, I'd go on price.
