This is such a bright idea I wish it had been mine. It came from Gail ( Dorset Dimension) on the smallmotorhomes.co.uk website. Gail; if you're reading this, thanks very much.

How to seal a bag and make it air-tight!

Cut up a disposable water bottle and keep the neck and top,
as in photo 1.

Insert the plastic bag through the neck and screw the top – to seal.

The bottle is made to be air-tight, such that water will not leak,
the secret lies with the top and screw!

(If you save the bottom part of the bottle that you've cut off you can put liquids- soup, sauces etc- in the sealed bag and then freeze them in the bottom of the bottle to make them easier to store)

G

Edit: The photos have come out the wrong way round -bottom one is photo 1, top one is photo 2 !

My wife is very good at tying knots in balloons. She makes quick work of a plastic bag. I need a carrier bag.

Have you tried getting these air-tight ? Or even well-sealed enough to freeze liquids in ?

I've got a few thousand American ziplock "baggies" ( cringe !) and find this method simpler. I'm quite good at tying knots in plastic bags but it is not easy when they are full of liquid.

Mrs Zeb has several hundred of >> these << from Lakeland. (I'm sure they breed, because we have a few big ones and loads of little ones! Laughing )

I've got a cupboard full of those too Dave...but they don't make a water-tight seal and, if they're anything like mine, break apart reasonably often.

You've missed the point all of you !

In these days of buy! buy! buy! it's good to come across a simple but very effective solution using what is a waste product. It can be done with any plastic bottle. I've just tried it with a plastic milk bottle. It gives me pleasure to find re-cycling solutions ( aka as "I'm a Yorkshirewoman syndrome".)
