When I started it It appeared that I had two choices when selecting the options for bloging.
Option 1 Go for a full online program such as Blogger etc
Option 2 Create my own web blog on a program on my PC/ Laptop which is then uploaded to a bit of web space.
Both have there advantages and disadvantages
The main disadvantage with option 1 was that you had to be online to write a blog. Despite trying to pre write my blog in programs such as MS Word , the moment I copied the text and Photos into Blogger, it lost all its formatting and integrity. This is a well documented problem.
However whislst reading a never ending thread on a blogging on the blogger Forum I came accross a program called MS Live Writer.
I had never heard of it before, so I downloaded it ( Free ) and so far it looks great.
Its a simple Offline Blog authoring program that looks very similar to MS Word.
You set up an coount so that it sincs with your blog on command.
It gives you the ability to be offline and write your blog, add photos, videos etc and format text and so on. Then you can either save it to your hard drive for completeion later or chose to upload it to your blog either as a draft or fully published, using its own FTP program.
You can preview the entry before you send it up.
So far it has passed all the tests regarding appearnce , formatting and useability.
Has anyone else used this program, or am I the last to know about it.
With blogger you can blog via e-mail - you can set it up by pressing on 'publishing' tab on your blogger.com settings screen.
You are asked to select a password - so patandneil.PASSWORD@blogger.com. Anything you send to this address with be automatically published on your blog (or held as a draft)- including any pictures you attach.
A fantastic method of blogging when it is hard to get online as you can do it from your phone. Yes the formatting isn't great but for the purpose of getting a post 'out there' it is fine and you can edit and re-arrange your posts when you get online properly as you . We did it from the tip of Norway!
We've used Live Writer but not a big fan ourselves, quite like the new Blogger Beta interface though.
I use Yahoo mail so will have to be online to "Blog by email " so surely if I am online I might as well blog direclty onto blogger.
I liked the look of Live Writer as it would appear to enable me to sit in the comfort of our van creating blog entries without worryig about being on line . All to be uploaded when we get access.
As you know we are intending to travel around the world so I anticipate being "off grid " on many occasions, but would like to keep my blog entries up to date even if we can only publish them when we get access to the web
Claires website is created on Serif Webplus 4, and photoshop. It is for us a big step up from a blog for what we want out of it.
But, and for me its a too big but, its averaged 1 day working on the website creating the new pages for every 5 days doing something. Thats not 9-5 working but it does pretty much mean zero other activity for the day. And this is after a LOT of practice, and relearning a second better software package which is now a lot quicker than the last one. This is still a mile off what it could be with sufficient time and bandwidth, so you compromise as you go, hoping to backtrack when you have the time which never happens
One thing we could speed that up with is having a laptop just for that, so no faff with hard drives, card readers etc that we do now, taking too much room spread out inside the camper, and taking some annoying time to set up making it a hassle.
