Hi,

Has anyone felt the need to fit additional security locks to the external locker doors?

Richard

Look around any campsite/Aire and you will get your answer.

Some do some dont !!!

On reflection I cannot ever recall seeing additional external locking devices fitted to caravans so I wonder if its just a motor home thing.

Most external lockers are accessible from inside the MH and how secure are the perspex windows that are held closed with puny plastic catches???

You could argue that by fitting further (visible) locks you are saying "There is something in here thats of value you might consider stealing" On the other hand you could argue that by fitting extra locks you are making your vehicle less desirable to break intom than the (un equipped) one alongside !!

All down to personal choice really. Dont forget that the locker doors are not as strong as the locks you are thinking of fitting Surprised

You could also use the arguement that your vehicle contents are insured !!

Has anyone here experienced "Unauthorised access" to their external lockers?? Not " I have heard about a mates pal..." but actual personal experience. I would imagine the incidence of thefts from MH lockers is statistically very low.

I dont actually lock my MH when its on my drive. If someone has it in their feeble brain to steal anything from inside then the poxxy little locks are not going to act as much of a deterent, in fact the cost of damage caused to any locks/doors/windows etc to gain access will probably far exceed the cost of what gets nicked. ( I do however live in a courtyard type area in very low crime rate area, not that that is any guarantee of course.)

I dont but a lot of folks do
caravans dont usually bother as the van is often on a site surrounded by other caravans and doesnt move and i supopse theres a sort of comardery amonst fellow campers.
Mhs are often parked in car parks and less secure places and so extra locks may be thought necessary.

If you have a security system that covers the lockers than its no so bad.

Hi,

I'm not sure that your insurance company would be too pleased about that if, heaven forbid, your motorhome was relieved of content (or if the whole thing was taken come to that).

I too am fortunate enough to live in a relatively low crime area - but have had a clamped and alarmed caravan stolen from our drive (over ten years ago, but the neighbours still like to be told when we are going to move our motorhome off our drive - otherwise they panic).

Regards,
John

hi richard d.we have seen a lot of European m/h's with the lock's on i wounder( if they are trying to tell us something ) there is a m/h just the same as your he has one on each side of the garaged doors. we have been thinking about lock's ourselves but it all depends on where you park up for the night . if you wildcamp i would think yes parked up on crime hot spots yes . your garage is very large so you will have a lot of equipment in . like mrplod said if they want to get in they will these locks are not cheap .i think the best way to go is an alarm of some sorts .jud

Hi,

We have additional Abus/heosafe locks fitted to both my garage doors, the habitation door and the drivers door on my van. We also had them fitted on our previous van and they helped foil a burglary while wildcamping in Sardinia.
