We are new to motorhoming and have a Rapido 773FF. We have since April toured ireland and the champagne region of France and loved every minute. We are considering skiing in the cairngorms in January 2012 and wondered if anyone knew of where to park up to be near the slopes and is it possible to rough camp in the ski centre car parks. Would be very grateful for any advice

I don't know about wild camping in that area but I suggest you contcat the ski centre in Aviemore. However, just down the road is Glenmore, a Forest Holidays site that it's open all year. It's a well organised site.

Have fun!

Hi Romeo

Glenmore Forest Park is the nearest site to the slopes, got stuck there 2 years ago, when 39'' of snow fell over night. (not the best of site management, but I think its all changed since then)

Best Regards
Broom

Hello,

We stay at http://www.highrange.co.uk/ when we go to Aviemore.

I think Glencoe and Glenshee allow you to stay overnight in the carparks. There have been issues with staying on the carpark at Cairngorms.

Let me know how you go on please?

Thanks for that I will contact them and ask their advice. I am just concerned that staying in a site some distance away may present problems getting in and out each day if snowing as we are not the best nation in the world at dealing with a fall of snow. However i will be sure to let you know the outcome.

best regards
Davy

There is a frequent ski bus from Aviemore to Cairngorm which goes past the campsite. Most people just use that.

Well if you get too much snow at the Cairngorms, you won't be going skiing as the funicular get snowed in.

Don't get that at Glencoe.

Thanks for that. That sounds good as I was concerned about using the van every day to come and go although I do have snow chains. I contacted Glenmore but have been told I cannot book anyway as it is on a first come first served basis. Thanks for all your help.
