Hi all,
Posted this under 'Ask a Trader', but would like to see if the 'collective' have any experience / thoughts on this also...

Just aquired a 'new' receiver as our Silvercrest died.

However, our favourite French channel has just switched something yesterday and, while we can hear the programme, we cannot see a thing. It was working perfectly before!!!

Here are the details:

Receiver is a Konig SDFTA11

The TV programme is ARTE on Hotbird 6 and these are the (translated) details from their website:

On the HOTBIRD 6 satellite, ARTE modifies its dissemination standard on the standard signal in the clear (MPEG2-> MPEG4) and proposes a new French HD channel.

Effective November 29, 2011, ARTE French signal will be issued, in clear, in replacement of standard MPEG-2 MPEG-4 standard.
In order to continue receiving ARTE in clear from this orbital position, should be to upgrade to an MPEG-4 satellite receiver.

The geographical area covered by this new diffusion does not change from the previous situation and widely covers European countries as well as the three countries of the Maghreb.

The transmission frequency remains unchanged for the broadcast in SD: Repeater 156,
Frequency 11523 V,
DVB-S/MPEG-4
Flow 27 500 symbols,
FEC ¾

Now, arte HD is available in clear and MPEG4 DVB - S2 on the Hotbird 6 satellite:

Orbital position 13 ° is
DVB - S2 (8PSK) modulation
Frequency 11681 MHz
Horizontal polarization
Symbolrate 27500
FEC 3/4
Coding MPEG4 HD

we had perfect reception before yesterday...

Is our receiver box not capable and do we have to replace it - again?

If so - what with?

This is all Greek to us - and Flo is getting withdrawal symptoms!!!
Cheers
Carl n Flo

Thanks Kev - appreciated mate!!!

Had a reply from Scott of Webbs (on Ask a Trader - but I cannot respond to him there.....)

It sounds to me like they have changed it to an HD channel. Which means if you do not have a HD-ready TV you can't watch the programme.

A quick google search gives no mention that the Konig SDFTA11 is a MPEG-4 receiver.

I may be wrong here, but this is what seems to be the issue. If you have an HD tv at home small enough, try testing that in the MH.

Thanks Scott - however we full-time in the van so do not have a house to put a tv in!!!!

If what Scott says is kosher, is it enough to just have a MPEG-4 receiver or do we need an HD ready TV as well? Not fussed about having the HD quality per se, just want to see a picture to go with the sound...............

ARTE is still on Hotbird on 11623 v 27500 (not 11526 as per the post) as it have just scanned for it.

It is available in both SD and HD.

The SD version has changed from Mpeg 2 to Mpeg 4...which will be the reason why you can get audio and no picture...as your current receiver is not mpeg4 compatiable - sa mpeg is a video standard.

But from Nov it now is ALSO available in HD.

So you can get a SD mpeg 4 sd receiver and watch it in SD only.
Or get a HD mpeg 4 receiver and be able to watch both SD and HD versions.

You do not need a HD TV or HD Ready TV - unless you want to watch the HD channels in HD. You can watch the HD channels on a non hd telly, but obvoiudsoly the image dispalyed will not be in HD, even though you are watching a HD channel.
