My truma has been fine all "summer", clicking to both heat settings and the blower fan gradually increasing in speed to a pre set max on each heat setting as the boiler warms, just as it should.... But the cold weather has thrown a spanner in the works and although it runs perfectly in both heat settings as it should and the blower fan is increasing in speed, the blower isnt reaching the maximum speed it did in warmer weather thus less heat is blown into the van and it takes ages for the thermostat to click the boiler to low heat which then tends to stay on most of the time while i m trying to sleep....

There is nothing wrong with the truma and the problem lies with the low temperatures which affect the gas regulator and the pressure decrease they give to the gas supply due to temperature change... and a problem i ve come across having gas bottle central heating in italy not to mention the poor quality of gas at the pumps over there back in the 90 s that never gave the same gas flame the genuine bottled gas did....

Fortunatley i was aware my regulator is adjustable for good reason and it was a very simple job to increase the pressure 3 turns and the truma perfoms perfectlywith the blower spinning up to max and delivering heat as it should in both high and low setting and the thermostat clicking off so i get a quiet nights sleep....

question is , has anyone else noticed a change with the cold weather and how do you go on with uk regulators that are not always adjustable ???

What gas are you using Spatz?

That's the first bit of information we need.

Cold weather shouldn't affect a regulator. If it did, all the tank gas households in the country would be pretty chilly this morning. Rolling Eyes Shocked

If you are using Butane that's the answer. Butane stops vapourising at around +5 degrees Celcius if you are drawing it off at anything more than a trickle. Adjusting your regulator may not be a wise move?

More info please before we can make sensible comments.

zeb...

i m using lpg from the pumps, but it was the same when i switched over to orange bottle prior to adjustment....

cold weather definately affects regulators and gas pressure, but i accept few people will notice the results, just ex corgi i do.... As you ll notice most foreign regulators are made to be easily adjustable for the buying public some even having a conveniant knob on the top and i d assume there was good reason considdering their temperatures can fluctuate from + 40 c to -15 over the year.. After all , its only a metal spring controling a diaphram and the adjuster just puts more or less pressure on it to adjust gas pressure....

My point is my boiler wasnt performing as it was intended because the gas pressure was too low due to the outside cold temperatures....just as my house central heating run on large outside gas bottles wasnt when temperatures dropped below zero in the mountains abroad.

I was just highlighting a problem others might have noticed and wondered about and giving a solution if you have an adjustable regulator... of course , you re stuffed if you havnt ...

(when corgi, I admit to adjusting my house boiler to the minimum manufacturers pressure setting to save some £20 a month at the time with no noticeable loss of performance, and you can only imagine what energy could be saved uk wide Surprised but thats another subject)
