How do you secure your trailer on site when you're away from your pitch?
Hitch-lock, wheel clamp or chain it to your motorhome?
Hitch lock doesn't stop it being wheeled away or even towed away with a short length of rope.
Wheel clamp takes up rather a lot of storage room.
Lock and chain seem the simplest but maybe you have to park your trailer away from the motorhome and can't chain it to anything substantial.
We have a hitch lock which is the security the trailer insurance insist on. We even have the lock on when the trailer is in the Garage at home. The man at "Barlow Trailers" said do the minimum needed for your insurance because in our case a couple of strong men and a large van and it's away whatever you do. The contents are covered with our house insurance.
I have thought about this a few times. We have a Brian James trailer which has a hitch lock on it. Being honest, we are normally on Club Sites which are fairly secure, I'm sure somebody would notice if a thief tried to push it off a site
Whilst at rallies or shows we normally either leave it locked onto the vans towball or if we have to we have a securing chain we use to secure our Vespa, which can be used to chain it to something secure.
Possibly worth considering a made-for-the-job 'ground-screw.' I have one I used to chain my moped to before I saw the light and bought a toad! Just screw it into the ground, and, unless you use a forklift, the only way to remove it is by unscrewing it.
Hi..
Just an observation,NOT!! a wagging finger. "Ground screw",be carefull of buried services, repairs of these are not cheap.Been to many a B.W.M.,as Bunty Bagshaw used to call them on Radio two a few years ago,Burst water main,if its electric, certain voltages can straighten your hair!

Hi
Whenwe are away I use a hitch lock,a wheel clamp and a covered wire rope either connected to the van or through the wheel with an alarm paddlock.
Better safe than sorry.

If we leave our trailer on site it has a racing motorcycle on it. I use CC sites which have pretty good security but choose a pitch close to a tree, fence post etc. I have a 2m security cable, wrap it round the tree, put a security chain around the bike wheel and trailer and loop it through the end of the cable. I have done this at Broadway, Cheddar and Longleat and so far so good.
I've decieded what I'm going to do.
I'm going to make two small brackets (one for each wheel)
Raised brackets with two holes in eash one so that I can bolt them to two opposing wheel nuts. I'll buy a set of locking wheel nuts to secure them, and the raised part will stand out far enough for me to pass a security chain through and lock it to the trailer chassis.
It may be that there is a little slack to the chain, but one or two revolutions of the wheel will see the chain tighten and you won't be able to push or tow it away.
I won't have to carry anything other than the lock and chain saving weight, and a bonus benefit is that no-one will be able to nick the wheels either.
