Hi Folks,

I have recently received my insurance renewal details from NFU (who have been excellent over the last 3 years I've used them) and been presented with a 30% hike in premiums. After looking around I got a quote from Saga for £100 cheaper and then Sureterm Direct came in £100 cheaper again.

After doing a search for reviews on Sureterm Direct however there is a clear split in feedback with 50% respondents giving them 5* on the basis of the cost and the other 50% giving them 1* recognising good initial cost but slating them for big penalties on cancellation and bad customer service when they complain about that.

With the savings involved and no plans to change my lovely Motorhome I would be happy to accept the loss of premium on cancellation. The problem comes however when I want to claim on the policy which is the whole point of having the insurance after all.

Do members have any feedback they can share with me on how good they are at dealing with claims? Do they honour the policy or argue through the fine print and not pay up. Are they equally obnoxious with stressed owners trying to make a claim as they appear to be with those wanting refunds?

Your feeback would be really valuable

Steve

Have you tried Comfort or MHF - no problems with claims as underwritten by Aviva.

I'm just about to change our insurance and am going with the Camping & Caravan Club who are about £20 cheaper than MHF and about £20 again cheaper than my renewal with Four Counties.

I made an at fault claim through Sureterm and they were fabulous, no problems at all.

Phoned them and reported it, MH was still driveable and I got it home.

They were very honest and advised they don't have approved repairers for motorhomes so I could pick my own place and get quote etc.

I picked my supplying dealer Geoff Cox, e-mailed them photos and they got back to me with a quote and also faxed to sureterm.

The loss adjuster for Sureterm called me as they had been asked to verify the damage and the quote for repair. They came to my house, very nice had a poke around. The loss adjusted contact GC to ask about any money off or whatever they do. I had no part in this.

It was agreed, GC ordered the parts and I took the MH to them for repair.

On pickup I paid the excess to GC and the insurance firm paid the rest.

It was a painless claim experience for me. They didn't try anything on and just got on with it.

My accident was just me, no one else involved and they just got on and sorted it. £6000 in total for the claim, I paid them £350-£400 per year for 2 years.

I stayed with them 2 years, only just moved firms this time for £150 saving.

They called me lastnight about a renewal and I explained the large saving and they were happy enough as they couldn't compete with it.

Ben

mmmh!

I know of someone who wouldn't agree with this statement regarding MHF insurance !

Unfortunatly its not my place to give their details

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that they are all looking for ways not to pay out - take a look at the newspaper cutting attachment

Hi trek,

A very interesting attachment from ''this is money'',the rules need changing I think, instead of checking the super computer when a claim is made your details should be checked when the policy is issued. link here

There could be a lot of people driving who think they are insured but unwittingly may not be if they have genuinely forgotten about an old claim.

Maybe we should all send this to our MPs, make them earn their keep for a change.

If we were to contact them with all the little injustices we seem to keep having heaped upon us, they might think twice before crapping on us from a great height when they move further up the food chain.

Posting on these forums is OK for informing us of a problem and discussing it, but sod all gets done unless we put a bit more effort in.

Moaning is not pleasant to listen to, so moan where it annoys most, at your MP.

Thanks for the interesting comentaries on Insurance guy's. Sureterm were much cheaper than MHF, C&CC plus comfort - just concerned about the negative feedback I've seen on customer care however this seems to relate to cancellation fees.

It's good to hear that you had a good experience on a claim Blong - although I do get concerned whenever I hear of loss djusters getting involved with relatively small claims of a few thousand.

I'd still appreciate more feedback on Sureterm, I have until 19th to select.

cheers

Steve

He would probably have been a qualified motor engineer. All insurers employ them - they basically get in touch with the garage and get labour costs down - I used to work in third party claims dept and if we received a quotation with a fairly high labour cost, we would often ring the garage to get this reduced and we were often successful.....I would recommend this action to anyone getting work done on their motorhome or car!
