We're in the market for a breadmaker. It must make dough for oven baking (rolls etc).
I know Panasonic have been recommended before, but the models that have been recommended are no longer available. Argos have the 2500 and 2501, but they're pretty expensive. We don't mind paying the money, if it's worth it.
We've had Cookworks before, and been relatively happy with them. Are Panasonic worth the extra? And what features do the expensive ones have that the cheap ones don't?
Don't agonise, just go here and click on add to basket for amazon top right, then you should get a SD-2501WXC Automatic Breadmaker with Nut & Raisin Dispenser & Gluten Free Programme for £118.
Sorry but I'm on my second Panasonic Breadmaker. 1st one baked a loaf a day for 5 years until the pan wore out and then it was cheaper to buy a new machine than a pan (circa £70! - eek!).
Before that had a Morphy Richards and within a year went through 2 pans before the machine burnt out just after it's 1st birthday!
We're on our first Panasonic and, had I known what I now know, I'd have stuck with the Morphy Ricards we had before. IMHO they are not worth the extra- indeed far from it. We bought the top of the range all-singing one.
The paddle comes out with the loaf about 8/10 bakes
The " bread -ready " alarm is so quiet that I sometimes fail to hear it while standing in the kitchen.
The loaves it makes- despite dozens of different small changes to recipe and method- are very much like the ghastly things you buy made by the Chorley Wood steam process. The M-R gave a good and consistent loaf every time.
Twice I've had the seed dispenser fail resulting in a mess of half-cooked seeds all over the place.
It does make good gingerbread and chocolate cake but, once the paddle has got stuck in the tin, I hesitate to take it out in order to make cakes.
Stick with the M-R. You'll not regret it.

Edit: our replacement pan for the M-R was £12.
Edit again ; the outside of the machine gets very hot- smells of hot plastic even after 6 months and has to be positioned well away from anything.
The machine is so tall that I can't open the lid when it is on the worktop under the kitchen cupboards- normal height ones.
