Hi

I have a 2002 Hymer which has a truma water boiler/blown heating unit in it, don't have access to the model number at the moment but 6002 rings a bell. It runs off gas and the control is the one whereby you have a winter setting which gives you heating and hot water, and a summer setting which gives you just hot water, temp settings are 40 or 60 degrees.

Anyway; does anyone know if these things are designed so that you can use the blown air heating when there isn't any water in the van? normally I would have thought not as I would assume that the heating of the water is related to what heats the blown air, but i'm sure I read somewhere that you can.

Many thanks

If its the same as mine and it sounds as though it is the heater can run without water with the following setting

Top position is 60degs hot water only (no heating) fast water heater

Next position down is 40 deg (ditto ) regulates the water @40degs

Centre position is OFF

Next position down HEATING only NO water

Next position down HEATING and WATER

That is how mine works but if unsure wait for a more technical answer or as said call Truma

Truma do state in the instuction book that the space heater may be run without water. You may need to warm up the unit on a cold day just to get the water dump valve to reset if you havent got a handy clothes peg
Good luck

I have a Combi6 boiler (not the E version) and can confirm that this can be run for warm air only with the system drained of water.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I can confirm it's a Trumatic C 6002.

@ Mandale; Thanks that's a kind offer, a friend has stated that he thinks he has a manual which he'll dig out for me, if that falls through I may take you up on your offer.

It does sound like most will run the heating while the water system is drained, the van is drained at the moment so i may try it later.

I did see online that you can get a heating collar so the water heater can run off electric, like our old van would do, but I can only find 1 place selling them and they're over £250 Shocked

Thanks

I believe that the system has many fail safe devices.
I drained the system fully and put an oil filled radiator on overnight, not noticing the immersion heater was switched on. Knowing I had wrecked the heating element, I did give it a tentative try (with water in) and it worked!! Phew! Embarassed
