I have a 2002 Hymer which has a truma water boiler/blown heating unit in it, don't have access to the model number at the moment but 6002 rings a bell. It runs off gas and the control is the one whereby you have a winter setting which gives you heating and hot water, and a summer setting which gives you just hot water, temp settings are 40 or 60 degrees.
Anyway; does anyone know if these things are designed so that you can use the blown air heating when there isn't any water in the van? normally I would have thought not as I would assume that the heating of the water is related to what heats the blown air, but i'm sure I read somewhere that you can.
Truma do state in the instuction book that the space heater may be run without water. You may need to warm up the unit on a cold day just to get the water dump valve to reset if you havent got a handy clothes peg
Good luck
Roger
@ Mandale; Thanks that's a kind offer, a friend has stated that he thinks he has a manual which he'll dig out for me, if that falls through I may take you up on your offer.
It does sound like most will run the heating while the water system is drained, the van is drained at the moment so i may try it later.
I did see online that you can get a heating collar so the water heater can run off electric, like our old van would do, but I can only find 1 place selling them and they're over £250
I believe that the system has many fail safe devices.
I drained the system fully and put an oil filled radiator on overnight, not noticing the immersion heater was switched on. Knowing I had wrecked the heating element, I did give it a tentative try (with water in) and it worked!! Phew!

hi igbzone. yes like most have said you definitely can i rang truma a month ago to check and they said its o.k to run without water because the boiler has different elements for heating and water . jud
