Does anyone have any idea if the more modern ( and more comfortable ) seats from newer Sprinters will fit the old Mercedes 207d please? My seats need replacing and i wish to go for something more modern but I'm not sure the bases will match.
No, not yet Saying that tho, xmas has skinted me out ( plus I just brought two 60w solar panels ) so, i'll keep on looking, just need to know what will fit really..
I want to do the same but the seats rails in my207 are quite narrow. In a rash moment I bought what I believe are 2 Vw transporter seats. The rails are alot wider so I imagine having a couple of steel plates cut to fit on the bases to make them fit. However, after having rushed into it I have now had time to think it over and I don't like the covers on the seats I bought. Also, I bought seats with armrests, captains seats, as are currently fitted but now I'm beginning to think the arm rests are in the way.
The Mercedes 207 seat rails are narrower than any cars I've looked at so I imagine making base extensions is the only way.
If you find any seats the correct size please let me know though. It would make it simpler to fit by a long long way.
Yeah I have measured the seat runners at 47 cm but have yet to find any that are that wide...opposite to your problem it seems. If I find anything that comes close I shall let you know. If anyone else has any idea of seats whose runner spacing is in the order of 47 cm between them, I should like to know. Of course, I dont want them too narrow as the under seat areas are the battery boxes and, in my case the battery to battery charge.
I am fairly sure I have the same white battery box on my 207 Cherokee. It then has a black plinth which is a little narrower, bolted onto that. On to that the seat rails are bolted. The plinth raises you up a bit but that is great as it makes sit tall like a truck driver, making you feel very pro about your driving. I also gives a good place to stash maps if you still use them.
My seats are upholstered in the same crazy swirly velour cloth as the the seating in the back and they also match the door cards making me think they must be original. It is pretty mad looking from a contemporary point of view. I suppose it must have seemed normal back in the days of f reg. The trouble seems to me to be that if you update the interior too much you are in danger of trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, so to speak. It is a semi vintage van in all aspects.
The way we see it is our van will maybe out live us It has only done 79000 miles and should do at least 250000.
We try and look after it, dealing with rust areas in the cab and replacing worn parts.
Had an argument with a french crash barrier last summer and caved in the rear starboard quarter
Going to peel off the aluminium body work in that area in spring and make good.
The bad rust under the front windscreen around the scuttles has now been ground out treated and the area fibreglasses, hammerite to finish.
New front bumper, rear crash bars 2x 60W mono solar panels and a set of stirling chargers, looking for a rear ladder next.
Everything we do at the moment is 'for the greater glory of the van' as we intend to sell up and go full time in 1year 10months and 26 days. If we dont kill each other after two years we may upgrade.
I had the same rust trouble on the cab front. The air vents are a pain.I fitted a pair of house hold metal vents. This are half rounded at the top. This provides a sort of lid which causes the water to cascade to the drain away. This seems to work. Mine was retro fitted with TDI many years ago( I have owned the can for 23 years).It makes a huge difference to its ability to stay in a higher gear and seems to have no effect on mpg. I would be interested to know if anyone has had any problems with the gross weight of these vehicles-mike
Yes! we had a real problem with our gross weight at 2800Kg. We contacted SV Tech and they had us replace the forward road springs (£450) (£90 fitting )and then charged us £200+ for the up plating.
We have 3100Kg now which gives us more than enough.
Still looking for info on modern seats that will fit by the way.
Put the ladder on the back, along with a telescopic aluminium pole on which I shall mount the long range WiFi and the CB twig.
Also repaired the rear sbd quarter damage last weekend. Some rot found so had to repair all the woodwork in the upright and the rear skirt.
Need to finish off the paintwork on that area in a week or so.
The new solar panels and MPTT reg went in last month.
More rust on the cab raising its ugly stains....it never ends.

I ask because I contacted sv tech some years ago and was told it could not be done
This was a telephone conversation .They never saw the vehicle.
Perhaps things have changed

and anything else you can think of !!!!

I can keep it under weight currently-but only by careful planning
