i bought insurance on the 4th of december 2011 drove rv to birkenhead liverpool just about to get on ferry to ireland and the rv broke down can i make a claim,so far i have had the rv towed to garage recovery depot at my own cost they think the E.C.U has burnt out ,question is will i the insurance pay up.as its only 2 days after first bought the policy.
If you've taken out a Mechanical Breakdown insurance then, subject to small print and terms and conditions, you may be covered for an ECU failure. It would very much depend on exactly what the policy does cover. The fact that you only took it our 2 days ago should make no difference at all to you making a claim.
If you are talking about insurance to give you cover for the Road Traffic Act (i.e, Third Party F&T or fully comp etc.) then as Saddle Tramp says that will not cover you for mechanical breakdown.
Assuming the insurance covers the reasons for your recent claim, then it must be valid.
It is not practical to even consider the relationship of its validity to time; if it has been paid for, then it is valid from the moment the insurance is passed by the underwriters until it runs out.

I worked in insurance for 15 years and insurance usually covers only accidental losses. Breakdown is not accidental but check with your insurance company.
Your cover would start from the effective date and end on the expiry date - these dates will be clearly shown on your insurance certificate as it's a legal requirement. Normally when you arrange cover you will state which date you want the policy to start ie the effective date.
