Hi all

At the moment I have a new Honda PCX scooter but am thinking of selling this in the spring and buying a cheap car to tow behind my motorhome. I am thinking of an old Nissan Micra, Fiat Cinsequento/Cequento; between £500 and £1000 max. Has anybody any comments on these cars or have any other recommendations. The scooter will be for sale about May and will have done no more than 500 miles. I also understand from a local tyre dealer that Hankook now do a ten-ply tyre. This might be of interest to anybody thinking of changing their tyres.

Regards
Gazburger

As a old MOT tester I can say beware of old Micras they did suffer from corrosion and timing chain problems

Daewoo or Chevrolet Matiz is cheap to insure and if you get the 800cc one it's very cheap to tax. One thing I did notice is that the tax costs vary quite a bit, from £30 up. Sometimes the tax cost is significantly higher if the car has aircon. So it's best to check the exact taxation class of the car you intend to buy just in case something like trim level, or year puts it in a higher tax band.

We ran a Cinquecento for a few years as a family back up vehicle (we lived in the sticks and public transport was not an option for getting to work etc). I liked it and began to use it a lot. You have to remember that the battery is bigger than the engine so it does need to be revved but I like that. The body is galvanised and we just had a basic service every year. Sold it when the boys left and I retired. The only drawback is that they are getting on a bit now. They did seem to get used as second vehicles so there may be a good one out there.

We tow a 1991 Micra behind the MH and are pleased with it.

We have towed a Siecento for 8 years now which we bought from new. Great little car for touring around in, forty odd to the gallon, £130 road tax and tows easily.
Regards,

Graham
