Hello all,
Hopefully one of you out there will be able to help!

I have an Alden 'Sunpower System' solar watch panel. It has gone 'mad' It tells me that the solar panel is not producing any amps and that the voltage in my leisure batteries is 16.9. The onboard computer tells me the voltage is 13.4. Both the green lights are on on the box that the lead goes to from the solar panel. From that I am assuming that it is working correctly. I know that it is sunny enough for the solar panel to work as I'm in Morocco and it is 72.4 Farenheight. All ideas would be welcome in order to fix this problem'

Hi.

Is your van fitted with an Electrobloc charger. If it is the 99 model the solar panel can be wired to the charger via your regulator. There is a 3 pin block to wire to. Number 1 is the neg input Number 3 is the Pos input. You may also need to put a 10 amp fuse inthe solar fuse holder. This will then show voltage and charge on your onboard control unit.

Sorry I cannot help any further.

Sounds to me like the Alden regulator unit has lost its voltage and thinks you are a 24 volt system. Disconnect the Alden regulator from the solar panel by removing either pos or neg lead. Disconnect the supply to the battery(s), count to 30 then connect the reg to the battery then connect the reg to the solar panel.

Many regulators will set the output to the voltage it connects to first - so if the solar panel is connected first it senses the 17 volts or so from the panel and thinks Ah this is a 24 volt system to when you connect to the battery it ignores the fact that it a a 12 volt system. By connecting to the battery first it senses the 12 volts and everything is ok.

Try it.
