I recently received my renewal notice - an increase of 16% over last year. So I have checked round and got a better quote from everyone I contacted, despite having the best quote from the current insurer last year. The best quote - from MHF Insurance - was a saving of £110!
Do the insurers really think we are so stupid that we won't compare quotes each time? This seems to happen every year with the motorhome.
Always shop around and then give your current insurer the chance to beat your lowest quote.
Don`t tell them the exact figure, knock a few pounds off and never tell them who the quote is from.
Daughters advice. She is a broker.

I think they do rely on peoples apathy. I always shop around and none of our insurances for four vehicles has gone up whatsoever in the last five or six years.
We have stayed with Safeguard for the MH insurance and breakdown and they have kept it pretty much the same each year but I always check around and compare and if need be barter them down.
I thought insurance was bad until today when I started trying to fathom out the various Electricity deals from Npower (our current provider). It is clear to me that they have deliberately made it so complex to work out their various tariffs that no doubt the majority just go with what they give you. When our current tariff ends at the end of this month the cost of the standard one that it automatically changes to is almost double!
I think lots of people don't have time or energy to faff about checking around but it pays to do so. Sharks, the lot of them!

ALWAYS ALWAYS shop around for best insurance deal!! Dont be loyal to any particular company either.
Also speak to the insurance company direct dont use online comparison sites, who do you think pays for the website?? The companies that use it and THEY charge everyone who takes out a policy via the website )
If you are taking out breakdown cover at the same time CHECK THAT YOUR SIZE/WEIGHT IS COVERED many breakdown policies have weight restrictions (as in they wont deal with vehicles over 3500Kg) or width and/or length restrictions.
I am with Comfort (AVIVA) and they have been the best deal FOR ME for years now AND their breakdown cover (at extra cost) has no size restrictions. I have used it and can confirm it covers over 3500Kg they even coped with the 2.5m overhang at the end of my Dakota !!!!
And it's not just motorhome insurance, is it ? All insurance companies try it on , over and over again. They rely on the fact that too many people simply do not have the time to shop around, and are schmoozed into an automatic renewal at a grossly inflated premium. Probably built in to the small print is a clause which states that the insurance is a rolling 12-month contract, so even if you want to cancel you still have to pay the full year.
I have just had a car renewal advice from Budget ( last year's premium £152 ) telling me not to worry because they will renew automatically for me. The new premium would be - wait for it - £357 ! Exactly the same insurance from Budget on the comparison sites is £143 !
When I telephoned to cancel, there was not a flicker of surprise at the premium which they intended to apply - just a load of flannel and claims of amazing value. But for a loyal customer they could get it down to £252 - despite knowing that I could buy from the internet for £143.
If the insurance industry is indeed the powerhouse of our economy, I fear for our future. Businesses which rely on sharp or underhand dealings are headed in one direction only.
