We've not got our base vehicle yet, so thought a poll might be worthwhile and keep a tally of what current builder think.

The reason why you prefer a particular one might help us all.

I've tried to make a varied list, and will have missed some obvious vehicles, but some are so unlikely to be excluded for most of us.

I did put
"Other, please post type"
but it isn't in the poll list for some reason so post it below.

Hi Kev! Having helped Artona to convert his Citroen Relay, I'd look for something where the walls are more perpendicular to the floor. A right angle would be ideal. Then I could visit such places as B&Q, Wickes, Homebase... to buy flatpack units. The hardest part of the construction work was working with curved sides and trying to get the furniture to mate easily and neatly to the walls.

A 7 foot wide van, with wall units along each side, would have almost 5 feet of space down the middle of the conversion. A full base unit one side and wall units the other would leave around 4 feet of central space.

A 6 foot wide van would have 4 feet or 3 feet respectively. Very generous space.

Wouldn't domestic units considerably cut into any payload though

Oddly a freind was looking to build on a Vario a few years back and there are lots of advantages in size and payload, but I've driven a couple, and they seem very trucky to me, I'd rather go the whole hog and get a 7.5t reefer.

I have voted double decker.
You can either go upstaires to bed. Or have living area upstaires and get better views.

For driving and reliability a newish Sprinter, with a proper auto box if you could find one...

But a 6m Sprinter has around 30% less conversion space than a 6m X250.

(Higher floor, narrower, more tapering sides, long bonnet).

So a Citroen Relay X250. (Well I think it has the nicest grille of the three, and the rarest as a motorhome)

voted Renault master just because i like the engines in them, but what about the Iveco lwb we considered having a conversion done on one just because of the size and strait ish sides

For the solo camper I am, and on the budget I had, my Transit Connect High Top is ideal for me.

With bigger purchase and running budgets, but still going solo, I'd go for a Toyota Hi Ace.

Very much horses for courses.
