Hi everyone, don't get on here much but think the wealth of info available is invaluable.....and so i would ask if anyone can help me with this:

We are planning to go to Sydney Australia for a month in march to see my son who has been traveling since Oct. Our plan is to fly to Sydney and hire a coachbuilt motorhome for 3 weeks this works out at £2300 but i don't understand the insurance liability options. Has anyone done this trip?
This is the website and the van is the Maverick http://www.britz.com.au

Hi Chalkie

I have edited your title for you.

Simply putting "Motorhome Hire" could put members off even looking at your post, since we have had some problems recently with rogue hire companies. Shocked

From memory several members have done a similar trip, so you should soon get some help.

Hello, we are off to Sydney in January for 4 weeks. We have week in Bangkok prior to arriving, so will have to large suitcases.

We did some motorhoming in Oz before. We opted for a motorhome from aamotorhomes. The reason we selected Them was we wanted a small motorhome with a shower and toilet. However, we wanted a coach built to allow us to store the cases up on the bed during the day. We wanted something small as you can wild camp anywhere in Oz. we had some amazing stops on the coast next to sea and the stars...amazing.

I think our rental worked out a £85 per day. That is with a £6000 excess. You can reduce that be taking the additional insurance, which seems very expensive, it's a personal choice I guess.

Hope you have a great time!

Stewart

Thanks i'm sure we will have an amazing time. I thought i would have had more response as some 80 odd people have read the post. If anyone can offer ideas about where to go and what to see, where to stay ect.
All information will help in the planning as we have not been to Australia before.

Hi, we are off on January 1 for three months touring in a camper belonging to a friend whom we have exchanged with previously, Free camping is positively encouraged all over Australia, look out for a book called free camps Australia wide its an atlas sized book it was blue when i last saw it,Dont be put off by the price $50 dollars 3 years ago when we last went, it will save you that in 2 nights it lists free authorized camping all over in places you would not recognize.as a camp stop.
There are two main sites if you want to stay in Sydney for a few days Lane Cove River is in a national park but you have to bus and train in to Sydney, a better bet is Narrabeen Lake which is on the Manly side of Sydney is nice and you can drive into Manley park on a meter or free and cathch the ferry accross to Sydney past the opera house and the Bridge.
You can go north from Sydney and follow the coast all the way to the Gold coast Surfers Paradise ect, or you can go into the Blue mountains (stunning) or you can go South on the coastal Drive to Melbourne and then to the great ocean road fabulous, pm me if you want my phone no, i cant get back to you today but will be free after that.

Hi, its what they call the rainy season in Queensland and Northern terrorteries, Queensland in parts is sub tropical i,ve never been to the North so i dont know about that, it may rain at some point most days in Qlnd but it so hot it dries straight away, although we go there(Qlnd) to see family i dont like the humidity, i prefer NSW and Victoria and South Australia, last time we went it was 47 degrees and i,ll tell you thats seriously hot, it skinned my back and i never took my tee shirt off. Dont worry about it, i just make it up as i go along if we like it we stay if we dont we move on. Its a fascinating fabulous place and youll never forget it.
