Hi,

We have just renewed our policy with Safeguard and confirmed that we had European breakdown and recovery. They assured us that we did. It is only reading the policy - through boredom - that I discovered that this cover is only for vehicles upto 3.5 tonnes. We have a Swift Voyager that is 4Tonnes so will not be covered.

What should we do?

Should we simply look for a company that does individual breakdown and recovery for such a vehicle. Which companies do both - breakdown and recovery back to UK if necessary?

Cost of course is important but would also want a company that is helpful and efficient. In the past I had to have recovery for my motorbike and that company was wonderful in both cases (Mondial).

Thanks in advance

Ian

We have been recovered by Safe Guard twice with no problems but are just under 3500KG. There service has always been good.

ITs not on though if they have told you that your covered only for you to read the small print and find out your not. Have you called them to see what they have to say for themselves. I would as it sounds like misselling to me.

I wonder how many others with this policy are blissfully unaware of this.

Cancel on grounds not suitable and try Caravan Guard. We are 4.5T and they are quite happy about this - and the small print agrees with them!

Before you panic.. just give safeguard a call..
I have been with them for past 10 years, twice I have had to use their breakdown service, once in Spain and once in Germany last year... In both instances our vans were over 3.5t, 3850 and 4100 to be exact.. They WERE covered and we got sorted out with no problems....

ps.. If your reading the large A4 size insurance pack, your not reading the section about vehicle weight and size ?? as in my book the bit that says not over 3500kg relates to towed caravans and trailers..

Thanks for the replies and my only excuse is that I have had too much brandy in the sauce Laughing

From BarryD's reply I have reread the policy and the vehicle is covered for breakdown and towage. As he said I had been reading the trailer/caravan part of the policy.

Motorhomes over 3.5Ts are covered.

Thanks again to everyone who replied. Very much appreciated.

Does Safe Guard cover repatriation to the UK if no parts can be found.

I need to re insure my RV soon and arrange breakdown cover, at the moment I am with the RAC Arrival scheme and the C&CC all of which is up for renewal soon

I have read through the safe guard policy but can't find repatriation

I assume it does as page 12 in my book says;

"For vehicles over 3.5 tonnes - If we are arranging the recovery of your vehicle from Europe we will cover reasonable costs for alternative necessary travel for the driver and members of the party to return home".

Thanks Steve
I'll wait for my renewal to arrive from comfort, which should be in a couple of weeks and then compare, ( safe guard online £590 )
