I’ve just started to use G-mail for mail and I made Google Chrome my default browser.
However, my bank have told me that they don’t consider Chrome safe for online banking so I’ve changed my default browser back to Firefox. Firefox however doesn’t support desktop notification when new mail arrives in my G-Mail box and I do want this.
Please can someone tell me how to get G-mail via Chrome and still continue to use Firefox for everything else or, alternatively, how to bank using Firefox and use Chrome for everything else. I thought I knew how to do it but my brain has let me down !
Grizzly,
Just set up 2 shortcuts on your desktop - one to Firefox and one to Chrome. You can then run whichever browser you want - or both at the same time if you want to!
I have IE (32 bit and 64 bit), Firefox and Chrome - using IE (64 bit) as my default and the others for specific purposes.
regards,
Bill
Chrome is good; been using it exclusively - also for banking - since it came out. There are more people using Chrome globally than Internet Explorer 8.
I use Chrome no problem with Lloyds, Barclays, Natwest, Santander and Halifax.
I'm surprised therefore that your bank claims it's not secure - maybe they just can't be bothered making their website compatible?

I´m not really as paranoid as everyone thinks I am
Thank you , thank you ! That works and I'm now on Firefox for my bank and Chrome for the rest.
I bank with Santander Roger.
Shortly after I changed to using Chrome I tried several times to access my bank account. I knew all the numbers I was putting in were correct but it would not let me have access despite several tries on different days.
I phoned Santander security department and was told that they had not -yet- checked and approved Chrome for use with their accounts and it did throw up problems sometimes. He could see that I'd been doing the right thing and it was not my fault. He suggested I went back to Firefox- the browser I'd used up until then - until such time as the security people in Santander had sorted reliable access via Chrome.
This was about a month ago and no time scale was mentioned.
Thanks again,
G
Edit: It's not just me. I've just googled "Santander and Google Chrome" and found quite a lot about it- not just Santander. It also mentions something else I'd forgotten; I got into another bank account ( not Santander) and could not print when using Chrome.
I also locked myself out of Santander using Chrome but I put it down to the two large G&T's that I had just consumed. Possibly it wasn't that at all and it may be that they do have a problem of some sort. However I've had no problems in the last couple of months but I will try again after having a couple of G&T's this evening!
However, my bank have told me that they don’t consider Chrome safe for online banking so I’ve changed my default browser back to Firefox.
Most likely is the case is the website isn't compatible with Chrome as it wasn't with IE9 or Firefox4 back in July. This is an issue with Santadare and NOT with Google Chrome.
I've had Santandare fob me off before, which is why I swapped to Halifax Clairty which is better for foreign use.
Thanks again; I now have Firefox for Santander ( and I'm very happy with them as a bank!) as well as on-screen notification for my mail via Chrome. What I don't have is the sound notification !
All speakers working normally and sound set to audible levels. The setting in G-Mail is set to play a sound so any ideas as to what is wrong would be gratefully received.
Life was a lot simpler when all you had to worry about was whether you had a bottle of ink and whether your pen nib was bent or not .....!
