Well it's been blowing a hoolie all day here, I've rescued the wheelie bin and water butt already, but a recent louder clatter gave cause for more concern, followed by our youngest shouting "something's just landed on the roof of the 'van". So jackets on and ladder out and sure enough a large coping stone has blown off the house roof and landed on the MH, bounced a couple of times along it and came to rest just before the heiki roof bit. The main dent is about the size of a golf ball and you can feel a crack in the roof material, the other 3 dents are much small and the roof material is intact there.

So what next?
Is there anything we can do to protect it from the rain? My worry is about water getting in at the moment.

Is this going to be something for the MH insurance or the house insurance?

Any advice greatly received.

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi,

I would think it will be a MH Insurance Job rather than House Insurance.

We once had a tree fall in our front garden onto Suzy`s car (convertible), when I contacted the house insurance I was told it was "an act of God". I was lead to believe we could claim from the Car Insurance, but in the end we didn't bother due to the excess and the following years likely price hike, so paid for the repairs ourself (it wasn't that bad).

GOOD LUCK with it.

With regard to the rain problem, tarpulin, clear plastic sheeting etc .
U will need to put a fall on it so rainwater flows off covering.
Perhaps an old tin of paint or something with a bit of weight and height, undercovering that u use. Very Happy

First aid - to stop water getting in. When something similar happened to our van, I found a spare vinyl GB sticker, cleaned the area around the hole and stuck the "patch" over it. When it came to repair time, judicious use of a hair dryer enabled me to get the thing off without leaving any "goo" behind.

So, hunt around for any old vinyl sticker you may have.

Should not be too expensive but if it is dry, it may be an idea to cover any damage with plastic brown parcel tape. This will stop any water ingress and may make any repairs quicker saving them some time drying it out before working on it.

Thanks folks, it's still wet and wild here so I'll go and have a hunt for something to stick over it as soon as I can get it dried.

I find duct tape is very good - it has worked on the cracked floor of our shower for months and months!

In a similar instance I obtained some acrylic sheet and cut repair patches which I bonded to the roof using a 3mm layer of Marine Flex. That will make a permanent repair and avoid Insurance claims.

I like your area of the Country, but glad that we are not there at the moment.

Duct tape can be too aggressive and hard to remove without causing further damage when it comes to repair time. The stuff is designed to "stay stuck"!!!
