Hi all

we have recently bought a 2002 auto trail chieftan and are both pretty clueless when it comes to understanding the different systems in the van.

We have just had our first trip (down to St Ives for Christmas - wonderful) and have discovered a few problems that need sorting out.

We are new to Somerset having moved here from Yorkshire in august so unfortunately dont now have access to the help, support and contacts we had in Yorkshire.

Can anyone on the forum recommend anyone in the south west (we are in Mark - near to Burnham on Sea) who knows their way around motorhomes - electrics, water, tv and satellite and who would be able to sort out the glitches and also help the idiot owners to understand their van better.

I could just pull a name off the internet but would prefer a recommendation.

Thank you
Amanda

OR Highbridge Caravans, just a mile down the A38, south of M5 Exit 22.

West Country Motorhomes have a generally good reputation, but I use Highbridge and find their service excellent.

did you not get any handbooks with your purchase?

Autotrail have owners handbooks to download from their site.

I also find Westcountry Motorhomes very helpful with motorhome problems.

Hello,

Maintenance of the Chassis - Essenjay in Poole, worth the trip;

http://www.essanjay.co.uk/

Habitation work/checks/Gas Tests - Taunton Caravan Services;

http://www.tauntoncaravanservices.co.uk/

Security/TV/Satellite Questions - Van Bitz;

www.vanbitz.com

Using the bits and pieces of the van etc, more than happy to assist but will cost you a cuppa!! Live in Somerset and formerly worked for one of these companies, so would like to think I could help in some way (plus I have some time on my hands at the moment).

Nick

Thank you so much for your posts and helpful responses. We do have the manuals but I think they sometimes assume a level of knowledge that we simply dont have.

I have learnt to be cautious as I have had a rogue trader type experience in the past in which my ignorance and lack of knowledge was exploited and I was ripped off. I am happy to pay a fair price for anything but you do need to be able to trust the tradespeople that you use.

Thank you also for the links - i shall follow them up.

Thank you also to Nick - I shall contact you direct.

Amanda and Jim

In addition to those suggestions above you may / will find that specific questions posted on the forum relating to 'how things work' etc. will receive good advice / information.
