We are relatively new owners of a Hymer Exsis SK with which we are very pleased. The one problem relates to being able to use more than one gas appliance at a time - hence my guess that there is a pressure supply problem. If the heating and fridge are on and another appliance (water boiler, oven or even the hob) is ignited the heater cuts out. It can sometimes be coaxed to re-ignite but the flame at the oven or hob seems very low.
The main supply system is a Gaslow installation which appears to be relatively new.
Are there any simple investigations I should undertake or should I go straight to a motorhome gas specialist?
Thanks for any advice.

First thing I would do is fit a new regulator. Common problem with them blocking up and causing just the symtoms you describe.

If it is a Gaslow regulator it might be in warranty. They now sell with 5 years.

If it is a Truma regulator it might not last 1 year.

Have a look at my thread on Truma regs. (just search for Truma)

Second thing I'd say Trevor Wink Make sure there is plenty of gas in the tank first. Shocked

Perhaps even connect (temporarily) to a Calor cylinder just to ensure there isn't a problem with the Gaslow valve.

After that I reckon you are probably right. The oily residue problem has been ongoing for years, and is still not solved. Rolling Eyes There was an excellent technical thread on here a couple of weeks ago (sorry - I forget who posted) from someone who cut a regulator open to do some in-depth research.

Very interesting and revealing it was too.

I was the person that cut that regulator open.

The article is in the gas and lpg section.

Quite right Dave. I had presumed that had been done but you can't always presume Wink

Another point that people refuse to accept or acknowledge...

in cold weather the regulators output pressure CAN be affected and its why you ll find most on the continent adjustable to compensate for the exreams in temperature they get....

You are not using Butane by any chance? At these temperatures it will sort of work but the boil off will be low.

Hi,

You must be using the correct Propane if you have a Gaslow system as that is all you can get from a Petrol station.

Are you sure that all the valves are open on your gas bottles and, if you have one fitted, is your change over valve set correctly?

Quite so Bill, but there is just a theoretical possibility that it has been usedextensively abroad and mostly in cold weather.

Foreign GPL can be a mixture of propane and butane, and the propane would have vapourised first, possibly leaving a residue of mostly butane after a number of fills.

Unlikely I agree, but without wishing to get complicated in my earlier post, that's partly why I suggested connecting a Calor bottle to ensure the gas is flowing correctly. That would eliminate several possible causes at a stroke. Wink
