We are planning on going to France for 3 weeks this year(spending most of our time in Brittany and Dordogne) and we will be using the ACSI Card [MHF Link]. As our children are grown up and the couple we will be travelling with have no children we would like to go June/July before all the school holidays start in France/Uk/Holland etc. Obviously I am researching as to when they will be but I just wandered if anyone already knows when would be the best time to go..........
If you are relying heavily on the ACSI campsites Shell, it's dead easy to answer your question.
Just look through the book and note the dates when most of the sites are offering the discount - and keep your holiday dates within those periods.
Those will be the comparatively slack times when it's less crowded, and certainly outside school holidays so the ankle snappers will not be around in their hordes.
ALL schools finish for the summer at the close of School on Thursday 5th July, but no French school has a half-term break that coincides with the UK i.e. the end of May/beginning of June
Hope that helps,
Dave

There are some cracking aires in Brittany and the dordogne so if you run out of acsi time you could always use a few of those
We agree with the above & only occasionally use ACSI now. There are some great aires eg Honfleur, St. Valery en Caux, Port Louis, Dinan and Le Touquet to name a few. We had 4 visits to France exploring Normandy and Brittany last year and intend continuing this year. You never know what you will find at the next village!!
As I believe has already been hinted, the ACSI peak season starts on different dates in different regions of France - I think Provence is probably the earliest.
From what I've seen, quite a few sites in the Dordogne are OK until 5/6/7 July - though it does also vary a bit from site to site, even in the same region eg, you might find some where peak starts a week earlier in the Dordogne, or even mid-June - perhaps because of the relative popularity of the site.
The info is all in the the ACSI guidebooks - it's just a case of trawling through.
We will be in the Lot et Garonne area (next area over from Dordogne) at that time as we live here. We are just 5 minutes drive from the Dordogne border. It is a fabulous area and well worth a visit when you are down that far into France! (Pm me if you want any more info!)
Thanks for your replies, we have decided to go the last 2 weeks in June 1st week in July, can't wait
Anybody else going to the same area at the same time?
Shell
We are going over for 2+ weeks over Easter but will be taking about 3 weeks end of June beginning of July to coincide with the Tour de France. We'll be on aires. Would be a coincidence to bump into you in France as we are both from Lincoln!!
