Due to circumstances, downsizing the house, working on the new one etc, we have not used the motorhome that much over the past 18 months. However we did manage to drive to Lake Como, Italy in the summer for a couple of weeks or so. Whilst making our way over the Simplon Pass the clutch peddle started to make a squeaking sound whilst being depressed. The further we traveled I noticed that the peddle sometimes was not returning after being pushed down when changing gears. As it was a very hot day I assumed that the linkages were maybe getting hot and so holding the peddle down. We stopped in a lay-by for about an hour to let the motor etc cool down. Before setting off again I sprayed what I could see of the linkage with WD 40. After that we had a trouble free journey.
Today I decided to give the van a bit of a shake down run out to blow off the winter cobwebs. After about 15 miles the clutch pedal once again started to squeak and start to stick down. Not so bad whilst on the move, just put my foot under it and pulled it back up. Not so easy at traffic lights Sad Also I noticed that the clutch would sometimes slip whilst in 2nd and 3rd gears when accelerating. Any ideas on where to start looking for the problem?

Nick.

Hi Nick,
I have not had this problem with a Motorhome but something similar happened with a car I owned, Basically it could be a worn pressure plate, causing your clutch to bind, and over time start to slip.
Have look here for a better description
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/clutch2.htm
Hope its not too expensive.

I'm not sure if yours is the x250 model but my clutch pedal used to squeak and grate when it got hot in traffic (lots of stop starts and barely fully releasing the pedal).

I asked for this to be looked at when the clutch modification was done and the technician said he'd never seen one that bad before. After the repairs it was the same!

so I lubed the ball and pedal linkage with silicone spray and it's been fine since.

Ours is the 2005 model, 2.2 ltr. Think that is the one preceding yours.
