I have just (before Christmas 2011) had a 60ltr lpg gas tank fitted underneath in the chassis of my Fiat Ducato Auto-trail Apache motorhome by an excellent company Autogas2000 Ltd located in Carlton Miniott, Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

The team that comprises this small company headed by Director Chris Wise ably supported by John (the Colonel) plus Wendy and Tracey proved to be most helpful, efficient, trustworthy and professional. Having pre-booked to have our system supplied and installed, before which fully detailed quotations were readily supplied and all queries and questions answered without any compunction, we travelled the 400+ mile round-trip to the Autogas2000 Ltd workshop from our Isle of Anglesey home and the entire job was completed and the tank filled within the same day - with enough time to travel home that day. Full instructions on filling with different filling nozzles are gladly given and I was able to watch as our newly fitted tank was filled on-site.

Dependant on what tank size you choose the entire installation costs around £720 - £750 inc. of VAT with a whole range of extras such as dash-mounted LED Tank Gauge, Filling Adaptors for most of Europe, Change-over and tank isolation valves to enable your exisiting Calor or Flogas Propane Cylinder to be retained and used as a back-up reserve available as optionals.

The fitting service includes a choice of two different bodywork mounted filling points which means there will not be any problems when filling-up in Belgian and French filling stations where the filling of cylinders are not permitted.

For those who don't wish to remain on-site whilst the installation work is carried out a free drop-off and pick-up service to/from nearby Thirsk mainline station is offered so that a visit to York for the day is a practical option.

One important message that I would wish to impart is this: Chris Wise at Autogas2000 Ltd says what he means and he can be trusted and relied upon to deliver what you agree in advance. He is also a font of knowledge which is enhanced by his own use of a motorhome and the fact that they have fitted many lpg tanks to replace gas bottles on motorhomes of many types. They also offer a refillable aluminium cylinder option which can either replace your existing gas cupboard mounted cylinders or alternatively by fitting one Aluminium refillable cylinder and retaining one of the exisiting Calor type cylinders you have a versatile set-up. We chose the tank arrangement instead of refillable cylinders because we do a lot of overseas travelling where UK cylinders are of little use.

I have made this posting entirely on my own initiative because I believe it important for us motorhomers to support the legitimate and customer-focussed businesses that understand and properly cater for our very specific requirements and who can be trusted to deliver everything they promise at competitive prices.

Spend a few days in North Yorkshire Cabby, you know that it will do you good. Cool Pop in to Thirsk while your conversion is being done, simples.

Thanks,

I did look at tanks but decided they are too prone to damage and corrosion. Plus if you wish to change motorhome, a lot more involved than switching bottles.

I went for Alugas which if you can get 2 x 14kG cylinders in you locker means 56 litres of gas.

Not knocking your choice of tank or supplier, just giving the readers and option.
